Poll question: Turn off tv/stereo - what do you like to hear?
Edited on Sun Jun-12-05 11:53 PM by Skip Intro
Window open, tv/music off.

I love, love the sound of water running, like a brook, that gentle, trickling sound.

I'll sometimes run my shower just for the ambient sounds as I play on the net.

I don't know why.

Like the sounds of a good T-Storm too.

4. I voted "other" for two reasons...
1) depending on the mood, I like all of the choices you have here.
2) I live on a busy street in the city, and the sounds of the cars, particularly in the early evening, have that fade in/out white noise sound of an ocean, but also that great ambient sound of the city, impatient horns, tire chirps, walking/talking people... I really dig that.

23. That's probably because I made it up...
... and I'm not all that well known for my catch phrases.

I was going to say "squealing of tires" but I didn't want to make it sound like there's a car race going on out there. "Tire chirp" refers to when somebody comes up to a traffic light or stopped car or something and hits the brakes at the last minute and there's a little "ert!" sound. That happens a lot on my street.

Sometimes it's a longer sound, which would then make it a "squeal", in which case, I tend to stop what I'm doing for the duration of the sound and wait for the crash at end. Usually never happens...

6. The voices in my head
And they debate constantly about the how it was possible that the US soccer squad could beat the Panamanians 3-0 and scoring all three goals in the first half. Some of them say it was the poor play of the defensemen of the Panama team. Some say the US squad is just that good. Some say the Panamanians were using poor tactics going into the game. Some say the Panamanians were too cocky going into the match.

7. Other--
In CA, the windy nights during the fall...won't be hearing those for quite a while as I go to school in NY.

I also like the sound of heavy rain.

If I spend a night away from the coast, I sometimes wake up startled by the silence.

15. Birds twittering first
Thenthe low hum of my refrigerater. The occational car going by. The fan I have in my attic window. And the way-too-loud sound of my neighbor's brand new a/c. Then, every once in a while, I can hear a train going by.

My neighborhood is rather quite.

17. I love to sit at the ocean and listen to the waves
it calms me down a lot. Wish I could do it more often. But unfortunately I don't even live close to an ocean

When I did my internship in Savannah I pretty much went to the Atlantic every weekend. Loved it.
