My dog ate 2 Valiums this morning.

Will he be okay? He must have grabbed the bottle out of my purse. But I found a chewed up prescription bottle with 1/2 a Valium on the floor. I had 2 1/2 left before he got a hold of it. He seemed fine. They were only 5 milligrams each.

I would imagine it would all depend on how big the dog is and whether valium is something they can tolerate.

He'll probably just sleep it off, but do call the vet. Valium doesn't work on all dogs, and you may have to watch him for a day or two.

He was hyperactive before that...the pills actually made him "normal". Valium's not a big deal usually...

flying in Saturday. I landed in Jackson and we had to come in with the tropical storm on the coast. It was very bad. There weren't many people on the flight, so one flight attendant talked me through everything. They had to buckle up too b/c of the bumpiness, but she made sure I was comfortable. She even gave me free beer (and at four bucks a pop, that was awesome) and would not accept a tip from me. I walked up to her and thanked her when we finally landed. She was awesome!

That, or a sleep aid like Ambien (for longer flights).

My cat who weighed 14 pounds took 2 mg. of Valium everyday for 12 years. It kept him calm and using his litter box. Without the Valium he'd pee in the house.

I gave our dog, at 26 pounds, 2 mg. of Valium once and it did absolutely nothing.

Let us know what your vet says.

5 mg does seem like a very small dose but i am not familiar with valium dosing.... even if he is a big dog and it is a small dose STILL CALL THE VET.

Whew! I don't even know how he got it. He loves to tear stuff up (he's still a puppy). I had it put up in my purse, he must have been nosing around in my purse.

14. I am so glad.... thanks for telling us of this... I was just thinking of

how I need to be more vigilant about keeping my meds away from anywhere my cats may mistake the bottle for a toy to be utterly destroyed in order to get the "treats" inside.

cabinet where it belongs. They can be very determined when they want to get into something.

based on the strenght of the valium and size of the dog.
