1. Depends. do you call ld?
If so, how much? A calling card might be better than paying extra for ld.

I have ld on my home phone because I call Canada and with the Variations package I have through verizon, I can talk to my aunt all day and it not cost anything other than the monthly plan.

I have a cell phone that comes with ld regardless, but I think its over $1.00/hr to call Canada.

but.. no. you do NOT HAVE TO HAVE long distance.

2. Only if you want to use long distance
Otherwise, you can use a phone card for long distance.

3. Depends on where you live
I live in the sticks, and everything's long distance. But I use my cell phone for those calls.

Do you make alot of long distance calls? Do you have a cell phone with unlimited minutes and a wide local calling area?

6. Check with your phone company.
Mine used to insist on having you select a long-distance carrier, or they would actually Charge you for not having one.
