Separation of Church and State

My daughter was going through some old campaign lit that my mom saved and put aside for me before she died.

Some of it campaign literature, buttons, etc. from the 64 campaign, and some of it scholastic news, etc. Including the platforms of the parties.

I found one plank very interesting. A pledge by the Republicans to support a constitutional amedment:

"permitting those individuals and groups who choose to do so to exercise their religion freely in public places, (and here is the good part) provided religious exercises are not prepared or prescribed by the state or political subdivision thereof and no person's participation therein is coerced; thus preserving the traditional separation of church and state."

So many people don't have the slightest idea of what it means. It is so damn important - especially now.
