Sorry for offending Scientologists!
Edited on Mon Jun-13-05 11:28 PM by elshiva
:( Just a crazy myself. I am a Jewish-Episcopalian, so maybe it is craziness to be religious. But it does give me a sense of belonging....

This is AMERICA. People are free to believe, OR NOT BELIEVE, in whatever the fuck they want.

What is this place? FUCKING GUANTANAMO BAY?

28. Yeah, and I'm free to believe it's weird.
Plenty of people think what I believe is weird too, and have no problem saying so here.

30. Start a thread bashing a belief . . .
. . . or a religion, or a non-religion, or the failure to believe, or believing in the wrong fucking thing.

That would be so great. It would fill my fucking heart with joy and the love that the American people have for each other and the First Amendment.

31. Look. I think Scientology is weird.
I have a great love for the First Amendment myself, which, oddly enough, protects my right to state that I think Scientology is weird.

Like I said, I've seen my beliefs "bashed" from here to Sunday before on this place. Why is this different?

You are no different from the people that bashed your beliefs.

True, you have included yourself in those issues.

But my blood pressure is fine.

36. There are plenty of other people in this thread
who have scathing things to say about Scientology, and yet you chose me to berate for simply saying I think it's weird.

I do think Scientology is weird. And I do think it's a scam that preys on the weak and vulnerable.

What about Jim Jones and the People's Temple? Would it be okay to "bash" the bill of goods HE sold people? 900 people died Jonestown because of him.

What about people whose beliefs include following the ideals of the KKK? Is it okay to "bash" those beliefs?

What about the political ideas the Republicans believe in? It's okay to "bash" those, right?

3. And why would you? It's a seriously weird, cultish "religion"
that costs a lot of money to get mixed up with. I can't figure out why some of those Hollywood types (Cruise, Travolta, Kirstie Ally) are so into it.

They deserve ridicule.

21. I agree with that one.
Aliens in the volcanoes is ok with me. Heard weirder stuff in my life by more mainstream religions.

But when they start pretending like they know what's good for everyone else, but won't dare say why they know that (aliens...audience laughs...), it's beyond the realm of legit religious advocacy and in the realm of a sham.

20. Why be sorry? It's a fucking bullshit non-religion
If they just said it was a form of psychotherapy or new ageness or something, I wouldn't mind so much.

But that they have the chutpah to call it a religion - that absolutely offends me. Religions don't make you buy copyrighted "scripture."

Scientologists have computer screening programs that censor the net from "enturbulating" forces. :)

And it's only slander, if it isn't true. :)

Scientologists are in the boat as the Bush administration, in my opinion. However, it is very kind and considerate for you to be thoughtful of feelings.

42. Religion is such a touchy subject
I'll be the first to admit I have some reservations about Scientologists, but people are free to believe in whatever they want, so I try to keep my big mouth when it comes to stuff like Scientology.

BTW, elshiva, I think Bishop Gene Robinson is a great American (I'm a Catholic who's saying that, too :) ).
