BERLIN - Tom Cruise insisted Tuesday that his romance with movie actress Katie Holmes is the real thing.

Ahead of the European premier of "War of the Worlds" in Berlin, Cruise said speculation — by tabloid newspapers and celebrity gossip columns — that the romance is a stunt to promote their new films was absurd.

"Come on, it's just ridiculous," said Cruise, who is 42. "Something magnificent has happened to me. ... She's really an extraordinary woman and I'm really, really happy."
