38. Those are funny. The flaggots turned against Sonny Perdue (R-Gov.)
Edited on Tue Jun-14-05 02:39 PM by CottonBear
when he refused to allow a vote to decide on a state flag. The flaggots never got over Roy Barnes (D-Gov.) changing to a new flag (2002-2003) from the racist 1956 confederate flag.

8. Arizona

I have always thought that the Arizona state flag looks like the flag Japan would have had if the Soviets had some how conquered the home islands of Japan in World War II The rising beams from the gold Soviet Star over the blue ocean (to symbolize the working fishermen of Japan, the salt of the earth rather than an unattached emperor high in the sky.

Edited on Tue Jun-14-05 02:02 PM by Shell Beau
I say if it is offensive to so many, what is the point? A lot of people feel it is their heritage and I know several black people who wanted to keep it as to not try to erase what really was. But I also know several black (and white) people who find it offensive. What is even more offensive is the plain ole confederate flag and I am ashamed when I see it around.

27. Actually, it is supposed to represent the French tri-color.
to represent the French legacy in Iowa... Marquette and Juliet.... early French trappers. Fort "Des Moines," Dubuque..... But then the Germans moved in and had a little fun with place names at the French's expense.... one of Iowa's major cities is named "Waterloo" for example. and of course, later, in the 1870's... North Dakota named their capital "Bismark" as a show of rebuke towards their southern neighbor whose capital was named "Pierre"

Edited on Tue Jun-14-05 01:58 PM by CottonBear

(curent Georgia state flag)

(2001-2003 Georgia state flag)
The Republicans just had to add "in god we trust" to the latest flag and the previous Democratic governor added the phrase to the 2001-2003 flag to appease the fundies.

41. I'm from GA, not SC, but South Carolina's flag is my favorite state flag!
Edited on Tue Jun-14-05 02:48 PM by CottonBear

South Carolina was named after King Charles I of England. In 1629 he gave it to Robert Heath. During the Revolutionary War the cap badge of South Carolinian troops was a white crescent. This was placed on a blue background as the military flag. In 1776 during the British attack on log fort in Charleston Harbor the palmetto wood used in the fort’s construction proved resilient that the tree was added to the flag as a tribute. The state flag of South Carolina.
