Best gin?

Looking to buy a gift for mom who enjoys a gin and tonic in the evening. She likes Bombay Sapphire, and that seems to be a popular one (via Google, of course). Looking for some addtl. opinion, though.

This stuff ROCKS! I used to think Bombay Sapphire was really good, but now I think it's generic quality in comparison!

8. For gin and tonic, Tanqueray is the best

Sapphire makes an okay gin and tonic (though it makes one of the very best Martinis), but of all the gins I have made gin and tonics with, Tanqueray is by far the best. Sapphire is a bit too mild for the tonic to my tastes.

13. Tanqueray is the Rolls Royce of gins - but also consider Plymouth

Definitely worth considering is Plymouth Gin ( http://www.plymouthgin.co.uk ) this is not as commonly found as most other brands. It is unique among gins in that there are legal restrictions on where it can be produced; it has to come from the original distillery in Plymouth which has been in constant use as a gin distillery since 1793. Previously the building housed a monastery of the Black Friars, and was the place in which the Pilgrim Fathers spent their last night in England. Both a picture of a friar and of the Mayflower remain on their bottles to this day.

It was the official gin of the Royal Navy for many years.

If you see a bottle of Navy Strength then buy it, and any others you can see. This is kept at 100 Proof - which means 57% abv - talk about packing a punch. From the web-site:

I think that I'll have to potter downstairs to mix one now. :D

Living in Arizona, the summers can give
one quite the hankering for a good G&T.
So I've sampled some gin. This one is interesting
cause it has a bit more complex flavor.
It's good not to mix it with to much juice or
you dillute the unique taste.
