There's a lot of Fundies up there. We passed by Messiah College on the way. I didn't know you could go to school and be a Messiah. I suppose that's OK, but the mandatory retirement at 33 is a little harsh.....

34. A lot of people from NJ have enrolled in
University of Ky. I knew at least 6 people here from NJ and they claimed to know many more in town. When I went to NJ with one of my friends, they called Lexington Little New Jersey. The other major college in town, Transylvania, is known as the Oak Ridge country club because of the number of kids sent there by parents who worked at the Oak Ridge nuclear plant.

35. Makes sense
We call the old US 25 near where I live the "Baloney Rhined Highway" because when the Kentuckians would go home to Kentucky to see they're family they would eat a roll of bologna. And they would throw that red cover that is wrapped around the bologna out the window as they drove home.

37. I have spent many an hour on 25, especially between
Lexington and Paris Ky. It was very scenic and very dangerous. They have made it a four lane, so the danger has been lessened. Never saw any baloney rinds.

25. It is? That would be the largest city in SD, or close to it
What is the third largest city in Minnesota? 1) Twin Cities - 2.1 million, 2) Duluth - 85,493, 3) Rochester - 70,745 What about Kansas? Wichita - 304,011 2)KCK - 149,747 and 3) Topeka - 119,833.

Plus, with Pennsylvania, Erie county (that is, the metro area) is 275,000. Allentown-Bethlehem metro area is about 500,000+. Scranton and Reading are over 70,000, York and Altoona are over 50,000. Is there some sort of metro mentality that says anyone not in a city of over a million is a backwoods hick?

18. Scrapple = Philly (recipe)
SCRAPPLE

The Food Journal of Lewis & Clark : Recipes for an Expedition, by Mary Gunderson
In Early Philadelphia, Savory pork, buckwheat, and cornmeal puddings known as pan haus came to be called scrapple. Versions of scrapple traveled west across the continent through the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The gently seasoned pillar of ordinary foods has become an American classic. Feel free to substitute other cuts of pork or change the seasoning to suit your palate.

1 pound pork shoulder
1 large onion, peeled and sliced
10 whole peppercorns
1 bay leaf
3/4 cup stone-ground cornmeal
1/2 cup buckwheat flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon fresh thyme, chopped, or 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme

Place the pork shoulder, 6 cups of water, the onion, peppercorns, and bay leaf in a 3-quart saucepan.
Bring to a boil.
Reduce the heat.
Simmer for about 1 hour, or until the pork is tender.
Remove the meat from the broth.
Shred the meat with 2 forks. Discard the bones.

Strain the broth. Measure 4 cups of strained broth into a 3-quart saucepan.
Stir in the shredded pork, cornmeal, buckwheat, salt, nutmeg, and thyme.
Bring to a boil, stirring almost constantly.
Reduce the heat to medium-low and continue cooking until the mixture thickens, 5 to 10 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent lumps.

Spoon into a well-greased 8 x 4-inch loaf pan. Cover and chill in the refrigerator for several hours or overnight.

To serve, cut into slices and fry in hot oil. Scrapple is traditionally served with fried eggs.
