Poll question: Is Smoking A Super-Cool, Fun Habit, Kids?
I say it is. And good ol' Magic Rat would never steer you wrong. That's why this October I'm dropping Lucky Stripes into the baskets of trick-or-treaters.

Who's with me?

:)

1. I've never smoked, but it does look and sound really cool,
so I'm thinking about taking it up. Is it easy? How does one do it? What kind of cigarettes should I buy? How does one inhale? What is the coolest way to hold a cigarette? Is the European method still considered cool?

7. Why thank you for inquiring little Brucey
Edited on Fri Oct-31-03 09:33 AM by Magic Rat
Why yes, smoking is quite the easy habit to pick up. Thanks to the fine scientists at Phillip Morris/Kraft industries, now first-time smokers can go from amateurs to professional smokers in as little as three cigarettes!!!

Now, everyone has their own personal flavor preference. As for me, I prefer the cool, soothing taste of menthol. Sure, there's bits of fiberglass inside of them, but damn if it's not the best-tasting fiberglass you've ever had!

The easiest way to inhale a cigarette is to put it to your lips, holding the cigarette near the end of the filter and the beginning of the paper. Then you just breathe in normally and fill those lungs with fresh, pure North Carolina stock.

Note, the European method is true and reliable, though maybe not too patriotic in our current global climate.

I hope this answers your questions. Please feel free to see me with any further inquirires.

a long time ago...They make your lungs bleed every time you inhale...

8. not to mention
The usefulness they serve when long-time smokers seek to go scuba diving.

See, there's silver linings around every dark cloud.

I meant cool.

As in hip, rad, solid.

As the kids would say, smoking is the schiz-nit.

4. Sure it is....
every time Hollywood wants to make someone super cool in a movie, they light up a cig, and those big bad ass musicians smoke like chimneys...and we all have to live our lives through the TV and movie screen, plus idiolize musicians so obviously it is cool!

5. I started smoking
I started smoking because I wanted to be cool with my friends.

I didn't think a pipe would go over as well.

A pack cost $1.05 when I started.

15. Oh, baby, gimme that chemo...
Inhaling a Lucky thru your tracheostomy is like hooking a TENS unit up to your G-spot.

As Cheech and Chong said in a classic comedy album, "Since I lost one of my lungs (gasp), I cut my smokin' in half!"

And though I respect and wholeheartedly agreed with the message of those crazy TheTruth kids, I still wanna smack most of them upside the head with a tobacco prawn.

14. How about those exotic yellow fingertips and teeth?
And how thin they make one?

Makes one kinda like a spice addict in Dune, all 'different'.

And the cute little coughs are so . . . Goth or . . . literary or something.

17. I have done many things in life that were bad ideas
But smoking is the only regret. After 18 years of smoking, I was finally able to quit three years ago. I feel better now than I ever have. The real down side is that I still crave them every once in a while. They smell and taste awful, and the diseases you get (cancer, heart problems, etc.) are terrible, but I still crave them. If I had it all to do over again, I would never start.

Starting smoking is one of the most foolish mistakes anyone can make.

18. The best way to do cigarettes is to never do them.
Even if you become a movie star, and they make your character smoke, tell them to use a lung double.

19. Smoking is a choice....unhealthy yeah....not much unlike so many others...
Edited on Fri Oct-31-03 10:30 AM by jus_the_facts
....like driving vehicles or ingesting the chemicals you clean with or that are in the food you eat....or the paper products you use DAILY which are all poisons as well and are contaminating the planet and everyone on it....it's so interesting how passionate everyone gets about smokers when all these other chioces that are killing them and everyone around them are so easily justified....I mean we all KNOW that these other things are endangering lives and the planet but you still use them without much thought as to the hazards to yourselves or others....guess double standards and hypocracy still know no bounds.....judge not lest ye be judged and such :eyes:

on edit........so my point is we ALL make choices that evoke one of my favoite songs of Black Sabbath...KILLIN' YOURSELF TO LIVE!! :P

20. I think this is the part parents et al miss...
You need to tell the kids that smoking is great. That there's a drug in there that really makes you feel good. That when you smoke it gets delivered incredibly fast.

...And it's still bad for you.

If all they ever hear is it's unhealthy, it makes your teeth yellow, or just "smoking is bad", and then heaven forfend they ever actually try one, because guess what happens: mom and dad look stupid.

"Hey, this is great! Clearly mom and dad have no idea what they're talking about...."

Rotting from the inside out could be cool. You certainly would get to know your own body much better when different parts start to fail you.

23. ...and back on the comedy track....
If being dead isn't cool, then why are there so many more dead people than live ones?

Hmm? Hmm?!? Jimi Hendrix, for example, is dead. Is Jimi not "cool"?

24. I used to smoke a pack a day when it costed just under $6
Edited on Fri Oct-31-03 10:58 AM by lcordero
that was over two years ago.
At just under $6 a day I can buy a porno magazine everyday.

It would cost $8 a day if I was still smoking. That money is staying in my pocket now:D

29. I used to think it made me look cool.
But you never tend to smoke in front of a mirror. When I did, I realized it kinda made me look like a idiot. But by then, I was already addicted, so it made me feel "cool", as in "normal". :)

Nah, I can quit anytime I want, hell I've done it a half-dozen times before. I smoke because I WANT to. And if you're going to criticize me about it, you damn well better not go to tanning beds. At least when we smokers pay for our cancer we're fulfilling a chemical need instead of an emotional one.
