Not like those real musicians who think they're so cool and hip. :P

2. Im not a fan of christian rock ....
I call it prayer ...

It intentionally co-opts an existing secular form for the purpose of insinuating itself into extra-religious culture ... much like how Greek and Roman holidays were 'transformed' into religious holidays ...

I appreciate your appreciation though ...

5. I was quoting George Costanza from Seinfeld.
That episode is on now.

14. I don't like that kind either. If it's bible thumping, I don't want it but
if it's like King's X or Evanescence or Collective Soul (not a Xian group but very postive) I'll take it

3. It's also devoid of artistic quality.
In order to be creative you have to constantly question yourself and your world. Fundamentalist Christians have all the answers already, so their music sounds very bland.

12. You haven't heard Iona, then. Yes, some of their stuff sounds like
the CCm stuff you (and I) deplore.. and other bits are amazing. Try their Journey into the Morn cd

Rock is supposed to be about sex, drugs, rock n' roll, and Satan worship.

Kids these days with their complicated shoes!

7. I don't like it.
It's a little too preachy for me most of the time, but there are exceptions. I liked an album my grandmother had by Elvis that I heard a long time ago. It was kind of cool.

9. I like it as well
Edited on Wed Jun-15-05 06:19 PM by LoveOHBlues
The problem is that there is so little of it these days. I don't care for the fanatical Christian stuff, but I appreciate it any time that God is praised in a song, especially a "rock" song. I personally find it uplifting. The world needs all the positive energy that it can get.
I highly suggest Matisyahu, if you haven't heard of him yet. It's not Christian rock, but it is Hassidic reggae. Before you make a judgement about it, you really should hear it. His CD is awesome!

10. I generally find that it has the strength of a wet dish-cloth
When you compare it with the art which Christianity produced in the past (architecture, painting, sculpture, music) it is shockingly drab and naff.

But that's just my humble opinion.

15. King's X
Since when was King's X considered a Christian rock band? I didn't know that. You learn something everyday.

16. Yep. I don't like the blatant bands so much since I have let go of
conservative evangelical thinking. Althought Pillar is very cool (i can't understand the words, so that helps *l*)

18. I usually don't like anything purposefully labeled "Christian"
It just reeks of obvious commercialism and overly sentimental dreck to me.

Besides, I find plenty of God and reverence for Him/Her in the not so obvious places.

When I first saw them, I thought the drummer was a beautiful woman. His name is Robert Sweet. I was a little, um, let down.

Underoath. Hardcore/emo/screamo/whateverthefuckyoudcallit band. I was pretty surprised when I found out, but whatever. All that matters to me is the fuckers can rock.
