Famous Swedish Television Chef Passes Away.
Edited on Wed Jun-15-05 08:31 PM by Kraklen
Sweden- Sven Svenson quietly passed away today in his Gothenburg home due to complicates from lupus. He was 87. Svenson was better known the world over as "The Swedish Chef," the host of a cult-hit television program in the 1970s.

He had been a local celebrity for some years with his show "Kookin Der Yummer Yummer" before heading off to Hollywood. TV producers were unsure of how he would be recieved by American audiences with his thick accent and obscure Swedish dialect. The forced him to change the name of the show, and dispense with the Swedish techno-flute-pop opening theme song.

The show was a hit with audiences however. Americans quickly warmed to his wholesome personality and eccentric cooking style. His dishes such as "Chocolate Moussy" and "Salade ala Boom Boom" were talk of the water cooler. His popularity was widely responsible for the late seventies craze for anything swedish- ABBA, stewardesses, etc. The Chef, despite the wild cocaine parties at Studio 54 and other hallmarks of celebrity, remained the consummate entertainer on his television show; even singing the theme song himself despite the producers.

Yorn, desh born!
De ritte, gitte goo!
Orn desh, dee born desh de um
bork bork bork!

Svenson, never married, is survived by a number of grandneices and nephews. "I'm actually really happy he got to enjoy a rich, full life," said nephew Bjorn Svenson. "For a while it didn't look like he'd last very long," he added- referring to his uncle's extreme style of cooking. On camera, the Swedish Chef suffered many injuries- fires, eel electrocutions, self inflicted gun shot wounds, fugu poisoning, numerous maulings and ravagings, massive head wounds, thrown fish-force trauma, and an accident involving a strange hooknosed blue creature wearing a flashy spandex suit and a motorcycle.

Following the shows cancellation in 1980, the Swedish Chef had been living a life of modern retirement home in Sweden. Following his wishes, the body will be creamated and baked into a souffle.
