1. well, currently

I'm being threatened by a rather prolonged string of lonely nights. I'm hoping that with a generous spritzing of cologne and a new pair of wingtips, I'll be able to convince (a) Catwoman (b) Skittles or (c) Lynnesin to sleep with me.

2. Resistant Microorganisms and insects

Try not to abuse antibiotics - take exactly as directed. Also, buy organically produced goods - bugs develop resistance to pesticides. And they harm the environment. And last but not least - groundwater contamination - usually by industry or the military.

Altho' one could say that these are all problems that could be fixed or at least redressed in the political sphere.

I was going to mention Global Warming as well. (And to mitigate that threat, drive as little as possible, use a high-mileage vehicle, conserve energy or use alternative, non fossil-fuel energy sources whenever you can.)

6. Pollution and unsustainable harvesting of our natural resources

These problems actually do have political ramifications, but I can't think of any serious problem that does not require government involvment of some sort.

I'm currently not doing anything about it except cutting back on the amount I drive my car. It's difficult for me to conserve here at college because they don't offer recycling bins.

9. Arguably population.

I think for 6 billion people having any kind of modern lifestyle - even employing all best practices to minimize pollution and maximize efficient use of resources - there is no sustainable (i.e. at equilibrium with the planet) model. Maybe for 1 to 2 billion.

Remember, we live a nice life here in the US. We have 4% of the population and consume 25% of the resources. Imagine living the "average" lifestyle. Better still, imagine everyones lifestyle suddenly lifted up to US standards..... how long could that last?

Really, I don't know. Seems like everything can be politicized, especially if you need funds to address a solution.

Other than the love life issue, everything posted so far is very political. And one could argue that loneliness is affected by political actions as well.

I am threatened by a month of raking leaves and cutting back any number of native species for winter. Now that's worrisome!

12. The solutions are political, but the problems are not

For instance, global warming was not caused by politics and will continue to be a problem even if all politics ceased to exist.

The solutions (or whether to even implement a solution) is what is political.
