As a former B.C. Separatist I can say I've been there. The one thing in your idea that kinda don't work is Manitoba. It's a very 50/50 kinda place... right down to the Peg. Half Liberal (traditionally Eastern Canadian party_ to Conservative (Western Canadian party) with a few NDP in the mix (Typically Canadian).

There are many that think a B.C. Alberta nation would be awesome... never hear much about possible Sask affiliationt there. And I beleive I read a story two years ago that said 60 per cent of British Columbians would vote for seperatism if given the chance.
However, that seems like knee-jerk BS to me. If a true campaign was on for such a thing... you would see different numbers. Plus, that was a couple years ago...since then the Libs (mainly due to Martin) have really done a good job of letting Western Canadians know they ARE part of the nation.

I just suport the Liberals now. The reason is that the NDP is COMPLETELY anti-business, while the Liberals give private business some leeway. This is just my semi-libertarian side talking now. For me, the Liberals are closest to having the platform of social justice and social welfare while still encouraging ecenomic expansion. The NDP is VERY regressive economically. If the NDP was in power in Manitoba, the province's population would have never grown by over 1 percent a year.

Thats bullshit. The liberals campaign barely on the left and govern on the right. The NDP isn't completely anti-business, thats a completely ridiculous statement to make. Show me one NDP policy that is 'anti-business' and maybe I'll buy it. Maybe. And show me one time that the liberals have actually done anything to really benefit the working class in Canada, I mean, when their hand wasn't forced.

All of the ideas to expand Manitoba's population and Winnipeg's population (i.e. the 10,000 per year immigration quota, or the civic improvements in Winnipeg, such as the arena) either came from the Liberals or PC's, and needed cajoling on the part of the NDP for them to go forward. I would NEVER think of living in Winnipeg if the NDP was completely in charge, because the city would eventually shrink in population and go into a tail-spin. The NDP goes way too far in its promotion of social welfare, thereby sacrificing the well-being of private business.

Do you think people would move to Manitoba if the NDP was in charge?? I don't think so.

And one of Winnipeg's greatest mayors, Glen Murray, was a Liberal.:)

Glen Murray did for the city was be gay. And I fail to see how promoting social programs for the people who already live here and are royally fucked is worse than inviting in more US corporations to under employ our workforce and drive out diverse small business.

Yeah, I love the arena :eyes: I love how it's right in the middle between small and large, which screws up half the shows. I love how it uglifies our historic downtown. And I LOVE how they forced Winnipeg's downtown residents out of the area for the opening and other special events. God forbid a poor person show up on the TV!

Fuck 'expanding' the city. All this 'expansion' has done is promote urban sprawl and kill local tradespeople and fuck the indigenous population. Fuck it.

And you actually don't have it too bad in Winnipeg as far as suburban sprawl goes. I've been to the Peg many times, and it doesn't look too bad. In Fargo/Moorhead, our built-up land area is almost 2/3rds of the area of Winnipeg, yet we only have around ONE QUARTER of the population you have (165,000 compared with 660,000).

Drive down I-29 and you'll see sprawl at its WORST.

So I was specifically talking about that. And the suburban sprawl here is disgusting enough to me. Just cause it could be worse doesn't mean I'm gonna let it get worse. It is bad. The city is decaying and all the hideous arenas and scumbag malls downtown aren't gonna change that.

It's like the Missouri of Canada. Add to the fact that Manitoba doesn't really completely fit 100 percent in the east or the west as far as geopolitics goes.
