Who would like to be at a Woodstock meet-up October 8th ?
It's a three day weekend for many people.

While I was at the DU meet-up in New York City last weekend we were talking about a family gathering. A few DUers said they would like to camp out in the Catskills to enjoy the changing colors of the leaves.

We have many lovely Bed & Breakfast spots. Excellent restaurants. Two campgrounds not far from Woodstock (and me).:bounce::bounce:Woodstock can be as peaceful or as lively as you want it to be.

come one, come all ... bring the family or just a smile :woohoo::party: before winter returns to the Hudson Valley.

:hi: who's in ~

6. Sounds Good To Me... As We Discussed in NYC
I'm wondering what would be the best way to get there from NYC. Is there a train that runs nearby? Or would a bus be better?

I haven't run the idea by my wife yet, but I'll bet she'll be glad for any reason to escape from New York. : )

10. come by bus, train or plane ... we'll shuttle you the rest of the way
yes, there is a train which runs through Rhinecliff, N.Y. and there is a bus station in Kingston

we can help any DUer who needs transportation or directions to find their way here and around after they arrive

since you will be bring camping gear you'll need to think about which mode of transportation will allow you the most comfort for a two hour trip north

I haven't been up that way since I was a kid, and it's really not that far from me. (i'm in the Ithaca area) Sounds like it'd be fun! Can a relative newbie go? :)

25. "Can a relative newbie go?" Of course! It's the best
way to get to know other DUers (as I did at a Boston get-together earlier this year).

You'll find that one of the things that DUers really like to do is welcome "relative newbies." They're good people that way (and in many other ways as well).

23. I'd like very much to be at that meet-up.
Keep promoting it so I don't forget. Especially if it's a family-type gathering; Mrs R. and the Little Guy have never been in that part of New York, and I'd like to take them there.

I think that it will be a bit of both. Family-type for some and pure party for others.

I'm just going to party all summer gathering info on the fun spots and then play the somewhat sober cruse director on the meet-up weekend.

If individual DUers will let me know what their interest are I'll be sure to check out things for everyone.

there's tubing down the Esopus Creek, mountain climbing and repelling areas, hand gliding, horse back riding, the world's largest kaleidescope ...

37. I absolutely MUST see that. How long has it been around?
If it's been there since the 1960s, I bet it was a BIG hit with the LSD crowd.

You wouldn't happen to have the address of a website where I could see some more information, would you? I just love that kind of American Oddity Roadside Attraction stuff.

Thanks,

Redstone

39. Damn. Thanks. I'm fighting the urge to wake Mrs R. and
the little guy up and pile them in the car so we can be there in the morning to see that.

But we'll wait until October. count us in for the meetup, and again, thank you for the invitation and the information.

PS: Nice trike. I gave up motorcycles a long time ago after crashing one, but I've long thought a trike would be a relatively safe (and cool) alternative. We have someone in town who has a Gold Wing-based trike, yellow like yours, and it is indeed spiffy.

if it is easy to get in and out of there I might be able to. I'll have to look it up on a map and get back w/ you on this. It would have to coincide w/ the date I'll be commuting to/from work. But it would be beautiful and interesting, no doubt.
