I've spent a wonderful day watching cricket. Ahhh pure heaven.

There were three breaks for rain despite a forecast of brilliant sunshine - nevertheless the full match was played.

Neither side used their full 50 overs, Bangladesh been all out in 45.2 overs, and England then reaching their target (without loss of a single wicket) in 24.5 overs. This made for about six hours of actual play - some of which was magnificent. It's a pity that it was so one-sided, but Bangladesh are new to the top levels of the game, and are making massive strides forward - they show great promise for the future.

2. Basically

I watched England thrash Bangladesh at cricket.

It took all ten Bangladeshi batsmen to reach 190 runs (which one might consider the cricketing equivalent of points) which took 272 balls. In contrast it only took the first two English batsmen (batsmen play in pairs) to reach that total, which they did in 149 balls.

6. What exactly is a 50 over?

I used to date a Grenadian guy who played cricket. I live in a university town and the West Indian students would play the Indian students. I know that you make a point/run when the batter hits the ball and the two players at each wicket change places. The outfield forms a circle around the batter, runner and bowler.

What do you think of Brian Lara of the West Indies cricket team?

8. Each time the bowler bowls is a ball

6 balls make an over. After each over they change ends and bowlers. To allow games to fit into a single day, one day internationals have a limit of 50 overs each (previously it would be played until all batsmen were out).

Brian Lara will certainly go down as one of the greats of cricket, though his career seems to be in its twilight now.

The WIndies were always the dominant team when I was young (the late '80s), but in recent years they've fallen back quite a bit. They're still very much a good strong team, and are likely to remain so for a good many years.

This is how it goes, the Australians are the definite top team at present, England is strongly resurgent and might take that crown for a while, India and Pakistan are both strong countries with great potential. Those 5 plus S. Africa are the biggest teams, with New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe sitting half a notch lower.

They did not break for tea - they do so during 5-day test matches, but in one day internationals they just have a single break between innings.

16. My family's Scots-Irish & my ancestors came over in the 1700s to NC.

The North Carolina mountain region (Appalachia) dialect/accent is directly related to Elizabethan English! Most white Southerners are of Scots-Irish extraction.

My accent is North Carolinian. There are so many regional and local variations of the Southern accent. I'm proud to be a Southerner! No one has to guess where you're from!

The only reason I can see for them and Zimbabwe playing with the big boys is to inflate other player's averages. And no - Bangladesh do not show promise - they are an embarrassment to the sport.

indeed was once said about Australia (that's what the Ashes are all about).

The country is cricket mad (as is the entire Indian subcontinent), and with a population of 144million given a wee bit of time they will become a top-class nation - that's what I mean by potential, I'm talking 10 years time.

As for reality, when the top country gets beaten by a mere county, one wonders what reality is.
