3. The first movie rental place in my town had those giant disks.

They looked like huge CDs -- laser disks, maybe? Plus of course betas.

My boyfriend surely rented those things... but I didn't have a machine.

And while Beta was somewhat better than VHS, the difference in quality wasn't really breathtaking. Ane the fact that people would record stuff at EP speed (hideous quality) on VHS instead of SP indicated to me that people really weren't that concerned about how the picture looked.

I am not sure how long we watched betamax films. I just know that's what we had to get when we rented films when I was in early elementary school.
