saw Rickie Lee Jones tonight
she was excellent. What a beautiful and expressive voice. And such a diversity of style - jazzy, bluesy, etc.

And I had no idea what a good guitar player she was...

1. Where was this? I've always like her a lot. Sad how she didn't get
long term recognition.

2. Pittsburgh
part of our Arts Festival, so it was free and outside. I think a few folks still associate her with her "hits," but there is so much more to her. She seemed to be busy enough with her alt radio fan base... :)

7. ha ha
well. actually, some of the stories she told from the stage had a Ricky Lake type flavor, about her divorces, past lovers, people swearing at their kids and how mad it made her, losing all her money, plane being late!

she was really funny and droll.

10. ooh
I'll have to ask my husband. Is that her new one? He's the big fan and listens to more of her stuff than I do. I know he really likes Pop Pop.

She did do a really nice, impressionistic version of "We Belong Together.' That was nice. She did her Anti * song, Ugly Man? from her new release. Is that the new one? She also did a love song inspired by walks on a bridge in Paris behind the Cathedral of Notre Dame and the soundcheck was a song for her sisters.

alas her plane from NY was delayed, so the show was pretty short, but damn, what an incredible voice and presence. She was really sweet and was a great pianist and guitarist. The tembre, texture and dynamics of her voice are amazing.

I saw her at Wolftrap years ago, and it is one of my favorite memories. :)

Pirates was a great album.

She has become increasingly political since Bush came into office.

(edit for typo on smiley)

11. yes the anti-Bush
song got big applause, complete with her comments about revolution and wishing the Black Panthers (!) were walking on stage behind her.

9. I'm glad to hear she gave a good show - I loved her early stuff
Saw her in the 80's in Denver during her drinking days - I wanted to like the show SO badly, but there was no denying it was horrible.

Nice to hear she's back...

12. I had never seen her before...
really nice presence. My husband has kept up more with her work than I have. She still has that smoky quality to her voice and stories, but she seemed really happy.
