On edit the keyword is wonder, not necessarily suspect them!

more of yourself away in discussions!

4. yes, but mainly because
I didn't think you could do it., and its usually someone spouting some RW talking point when I notice...it probably happens a lot more than that, but that's the only time I LOOK for a profile to see.

7. I've always had mine disabled,
but only recently have I seen the little head profile icon in my posts. I think maybe the last upgrade to the board added the profile icon to those of us who have it disabled.

11. If you don't mind my asking, why
do you prefer to have it disabled?

14. because it's basically empty, so I thought why have it show.
At the time I wasn't aware that date of signing up and number of posts were listed there.

I just don't feel the profiles are that important. There have been several on here who were high-post members who were just playing games. I think most can tell a disrupter by their posts and eventually the game-players get caught.

16. That is usually true.
But I just got a little suspicious yesterday about someone and when their profile was disabled, it only added to the suspicion. Not to say that people with a disabled profile are freepers!

Just had to figure out how to do it.

I saw one yesterday too that only lasted 3 posts.

you started talking some crazy talk. But glad to see you enabled it. You can give as much info as you like!

9. You can pretty much leave your profile empty, so what's the point?
They must be trying to make a statement. My personal experience and observation is that they are suspect.

And like I said, people reveal more about them during discussions!

33. The Freeps are paranoid that "Libruls would be investigatin' us" ........
....through their profiles. Yet it doesn't bother them at all that Speedy Gonzales can access their records of checking out sheep pornos from the local library.

Go figure.....

12. I only look at profiles when...
...I suspect a disruptor. If they seem to be aggressive and have a low post count, it explains everything and I just put them on "ignore".

13. That is why I brought up the question.
Someone made me wonder yesterday, so I checked their profile, and no profile existed. It made me a little suspect. I wondered if I was the only one who did that.

19. Oh, no, most of us do it
It's merely routine for me. I've rarely looked at the profiles of consistent posters with familiar names. Well, I've checked to see if a few were..ahem....single and/or gay.

28. Just now - for the first time!
I was kidding about the "single" thing. Though I have, on occasion, checked a few regular posters just to see if they'll admit to any substance abuse problems. But who hasn't.

remember which mentioned a husband, wife, or something else that indicated their gender, and most people appreciate at least a small clue to other's perspective on things.

35. yes, I think they are kind of chickens...
you don't have to tell your life story, or reveal anything that is really personal unless you want to. Why not have a little something in them?

But on the other hand, I am always interested in how replies to a post might (and I suspect probably to a great extent they do) be influenced by gender and gender-related negative experiences.

39. They could always include less information
When I first signed up for DU, I included everything in my profile including my real first and last name and city. Then I decide that I wanted to be anonymous so I took out that information.

41. Absolutely not
And I don't begrudge anybody that has their profile either locked or has no info. There are alot of nutcases on the internet just waiting to fuck w/ people who put info about themselves on profiles; I've seen it happen many, many times. And sadly, there are those who fuck w/ people simply because they don't agree w/ them on any number of things, and take it to frightening lengths.

It's not my job to decide who is and isn't disrupters here, it's the mods. I'll alert if somebody's obviously breaking rules here, but that's about it.
