UPDATE: the neighbor kid is trying to kill a baby bird
Edited on Fri Jun-17-05 02:29 PM by purr
omg omg omg omg..

I hear my elderly neighbor yelling at the top of her lungs at the (not so nice) neighbors so I go out to see what is going on. She yelled over at me that hes trying to kill a baby bird. The kid is about 12-14ish and they're constantly having the cops at their house.

SICK!!! after he got yelled at by her, he took off with the bird and hid (out of our sight I'm assuming).

I'm bringing up my kids to respect animals and people and to witness that was sickening. His parents dont give a damn and live off of the govt. They had her parents move in so they could collect more money - 8 people in a 3 bedroom house.

I dont know if I should call the police or what, but that was REALLY disturbing.

UPDATE:

Called the police, gave them the information - said they'll be out to check it out. If theyre not here within 10 min I'm calling back. I really hope that he didnt do something to the poor baby :(

Another neighbor told me that his dad is trying to get a job in Pittsburgh and if he gets it they'll be moving -YAYAYYAYAYAYAYAYAY. I hope to an apartment complex where they dont have access to poor defenseless wildlife. (Not hunting related - speaking of abuse).

5. The kid needs it..
Seen him last year trying to break into cars at the bar, and the year before that him and his brother egged multiple houses in the neighborhood.

7. Never let my cats outside...
I let my dog outside most of the day and I'm sure she'd let me know if the kid came in my yard.

I'm honestly considering getting a 6' fence around my property but I dont want to seem like a :tinfoilhat:

I'm getting a home security system installed next week (theres rumors of heroin and other illegal things in their house).

I live in a very rural neighborhood thats VERY quiet.. until they moved in and all the chaos started.

6. sounds like a future sociopath
a kid at that age who tortures animals is looking toward a life of violence and crime.
Jeffrey Dahmer spent much of his teenage years killing and dissecting little animals

12. Oh my...
:scared:

I did a lot of strange things in my childhood but NEVER involved torturing animals. I was in 4H at that age.

This just gives me an even bigger reason to NOT turn into a trashy parent (not that I would but having a kid like that isnt right).

10. Well, I'd see if the elderly neighbor would agree to call (with you):
Edited on Fri Jun-17-05 02:11 PM by hlthe2b
Humane Society (most communities have some law re: animal cruelty)
and perhaps:
Sheriff and possibly Dept. of family services if you have reason to believe the kid has been neglected... You might just find out the family has had family court related actions. If so, I'd try to report this behavior to the assigned Famly Service Rep and perhaps even the court....

I don't care if some feel I'm overreacting. I take animal cruelty VERY seriously. As for the hunters on DU, I do not associate random cruelty of animals with the legal ability to hunt and kill. This is totally a separate issue.

18. I'm going to do it..
I dont like turning people into dept of family services.. they're under big heat right now for letting a 4 yr old starve to death and other problems. I dont think they're so much neglected, but not really cared about (if that makes sense).

I take animal cruelty very seriously too.. I would've done more if my kids werent upstairs sleeping!! Off to call the police :scared:

11. Yeah, call the cops-they take this stuff very seriously these days
my dad is a psychologist for a state prison, and he said that most of the violent prisoners (especially murderers) started out by killing animals for fun. The police want to know if a child has any history of animal abuse, so I'd give them a call right away (some areas are more serious about this than others; here in Central Florida, the police respond to animal abuse cases by children and teens fairly quickly).

22. That is horrible...
I couldnt imagine doing this or my kids doing something.. and if I ever found out they so much kicked an animal they would wish they'd never ever did it.

By the age of 13 YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. I can tell my 4 yr old that a bird died because he was sick and I dont think he TRULY understands.. but by that age he knew what he was doing.

I'm waiting to speak with someone now.. :scared:

21. Well if the kid lights fires and has problems
wetting himself, you have a future killer on your hands from what most research says and he may have been sexually abused.

23. They have wild parties outside during the summer
with a huge burn barrel and a 6' flame coming out the top.. They're a little strange..

I dont know if he wets himself or if he was/is sexually abused (which is sick in itself). He needs mental help.. I think the whole family does.

Neighborhood hasnt been the same quiet peaceful place that it was before they moved in.

24. Just curious...wonder what kind of bird it was? (is?)
Not that this would make it right for the kid to kill the baby bird, but if it were a starling or an English sparrow (invasive, non-native species), killing it would be a (tiny) plus for the ecology.

26. I'd call the police, had a similar incident years ago and it got worse
within a few months, the same 11-12 yr old kid was caught holding an open pocket knife to my sons throat. They were neighbors of my baby sitter. The parents didn't do anything over the boy throwing the bird in the air and smacking it with a trash can lid..nor did they do anything when their son threatened mine. In fact, they went so far as to give the detective the wrong school to go when he wanted to speak to their kid, then told their kid not to tell the cops anything. I ended up changing baby sitters because she didn't want to tell what she'd seen because she had to live next door to the people. We moved shortly after that..I've always wondered whatever became of that kid.

I just remember he was a year or two older than my son. Makes me wonder if he has kids what they're like!

28. Shit... maybe this is him
I cant find their house on the registry for the county or their last name in any of the directories.

I'm sorry, parents who let their kids do these atrocities should be locked up themselves if the kid becomes a psychopath.

I'm glad you got your son out of there.. That could've turned into a really ugly situation. I think a lot of the times its the parents turning the kids into the demons some of them are. Whatever happened to raise your kids with morals and kindness?

I know they had cats, but I havent seen them in a long time. They have a huge black lab that they let run free - comes and poos in front of my mailbox.

Police are heading out now to check it out.. hope I'm not too late :scared:

29. I hope it's taken seriously and something gets done.
Oh..it wouldn't be the same kid. Our situation happened years ago..my oldest son was only about 10 at the time. He's 30 now.

It was frustrating, the detectives seemed to think that their speaking to the boy would scare him enough at that age to straighten him up. The babysitter was a mom of 5 kids and she didn't want to be a witness. I always wondered why she wasn't scared for her own children or maybe she was afraid of what he'd do if she told. Anyway, we let it drop, which was a mistake.

Good luck..sounds like that boy needs some help.
