Unexpected visitors!
Wow! OK, first off, I startle easily. I'm still trying to calm down! :scared:

So, I'm sitting here in the office drinking lemonade, reading DU, listening to Food TV in the background. I'm still in my nightgown. Then I hear:

HELLO! HELLO! I jump out of my skin and run to the voice! A woman from my church drops by OUT OF THE BLUE wanting to know if she can put a pie in my fridge for a few hours? :wtf: (Background: I know her well; she's an old friend of my mother's.)

I said "I really wish you would have called." That's really all I could spit out, I was literally so SURPRISED to see ANYONE right now. And I don't live in a neighborhood where we all walk in and out of each other's houses, so I'm not used to it.

Anyway, I didn't take the pie and the whole thing lasted less than five minutes.

I don't mind being helpful. I just would have preferred a call first.

And here's the rant: What make others think that because you are single and live alone that they can just wallk in on you at any time?!? What's up with that?

in town and lives even further out than I do. I was closer.

But I was just too startled to even think, properly.

12. LOL!
:spray: Good one, Misunderestimator.

This is especially funny, because this person thinks she's something of a freeper.

4. Yes, well,
I have a sort of sun room. That door serves as my main door. The door to the house is the next door inside that room. I had the house door open.

But it's really open because this house is kinda dark and it lets it more light.

I should really get a door bell. :dunce:

8. I mean, geesh, I could have been
69ing some guy on the couch!

And for the record, I don't go over to other people's houses WITHOUT calling first... for that very reason. I don't expect to be treated any differently.

9. I absolutely HATE drop ins
I don't care if you're married, single or living with six roommates and a golden retriever, I will not drop in on you ever and i ask the same of others. My home is my sanctuary and I would prefer only to have company if I invite it. Maybe I sound like a crusty curmudgeon (oh, come to think of it, I guess I am) but to me it's just common courtesy to call ahead. Especially in this day when virtually everyone has a cell phone - it's not like it's inconvenient to call.

11. I agree with you
My home is my sanctuary...

I feel the same way. I'm usually delighted to help out... if I just know a little in advance. I really startle and any lound noises, especially loud voices.

It's something of a personality clash between us. She's very gregarious and community-minded, and something of a busybody, too. And I'm the exact opposite.

14. Same here--sometimes I don't even answer the door.
Unexpected, to me, usually means not wanted...i.e., Jehovah's Witnesses, my nosy neighbor who asks people for rides every day for every little excursion, etc.

I *HATE* that.

Just call! So many people have cell phones now, it really shouldn't be that difficult.

16. Me either
And in my family, we don't. We call first.

She means well, but yes, this was obnoxious.

17. ya know its funny.
my front door stays unlocked unless i'm sleeping. i expect my friends to walk in without knocking because i hate the "cop knock" on the door. guess i've had too many cops knock on my door because of a-hole neighbors that can make all the noise when ever thay want to, but i can't. sometimes i get an advanced call, but not often.
