I saw proof my favorite band is anti neo-con |
|
Since about 1990 I started listening to Dream Theater and after their release of "Images and Words" that sealed it for me they remained my fav band to this day.
In their songs though they never really made any political statements (which never bothered me one bit I can admire a band that just focuses on the music) making only social statements on things any normal person would agree with (one song they made in Images had a message which discouraged giving up and committing suicide, another talked about the child abuse situation in Peru and all over for that matter)
Anyways sorry for the boring history lesson, to get to the point I knew they toured with Queensryche but I didn't get a chance to catch it, so the other day finally "The Art Of Live" (Queensryche concert DVD) arrived which contained two songs that they performed together with Dream Theater and one of the songs was "Won't Get Fooled Again" originally by The Who.
AWESOME performance I really dug seeing my two favorite bands hand in hand giving the * crime family a good musical smackdown Good Show!
:)
PS DT's newest offering is incredible and it is entitled "Octavarium"

I just bought my husband Octavarium yesterday. And I know he digs Queensryche too. I might have to get that DVD for him now. :)

2. You do know Dream Theater is touring on Megadeth's "festival" this summer |
|
right?
I'm thinking of going. (I really wanted to see Ozzfest after Iron Maiden announced, but then found out they wouldn't be on the southern part of the tour  )

3. Yea they're even coming to Tucson |
|
And Symphony X (another band I highly dig) is going to be with them I think I might pass though haven't decided yet, the tour is obviously geared with making Megadeth center stage and I dunno if it's worth it to sit through a whole other slew of bands I really don't care about just to catch 20 minutes of Dream Theater (which for them is about enough time to play about 4-5 songs)
BUT What would've made it worth it is if I could figure out how the hell to get Platinum tickets for the DT side to meet the band and all that but their webmaster is asleep at the wheel and has no links on their site as to where they can be purchased.

4. I was at that QR - DT tour! |
|
It was awesome, and I saw them perform Wont Get Fooled Again. Man, say what you will about LaBrie, but he really nailed that scream at the end of the song.
"In their songs though they never really made any political statements "
Not true. Listen carefully to The Great Debate on Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence.

believe me NO Dream Theater song will ever escape me.
Technically though Petrucci's lyrics are more of "show both sides of the argument" however they very subtley lean towards pro-stem cell research as evidenced by lines like "This embryonic clay wrapped in fierce debate would be thrown away or otherwise discarded"
Or my fav "Rignt-wing soundbite premonitions a labyrinth of rules"
:)
Also lately they've been attacking religious fundamentalism with the songs "In the name of God" and "Sacrificed Sons"
