so... whats a good way/site to download free music

i tried to search this in archives but with my dialup it wasnt working since the site is slower than usual

after a few years ive just discovered my itunes. ive downloaded some music from apple but what is another site or way to download some free songs

eg - i went to abercrombie.com and they had 4 mp3s easily displayed to download. suggestions for anywhere else that is easy to navigate?
what about limewire pro? ive heard good things about it but im just looking for something easy at this point

A few of my friends share files privately, but that's a pretty ineffective way of going about it. I would really like to find a safe way, especially considering all the cool stuff that I have.

I know a lot of people in the US that use Soulseek though, they seem pretty comfortable using it.

Or did you mean with respect to spyware and whatnot? Soulseek is completely safe there (and prides itself on it).

www.limewire.com, and download it. Install it and see how it works. I don't know if it works with Macs, though - I'm PC.

For free, you get the basic service - for me, that means clicking on "Audio," typing in the name of the song or the artist or the album I'm seeking, and then hitting "Search," sitting back and watching the results accumulate. Their viability is indicated by stars - the more stars one result has, the more sources there are for that particular item.

When you upgrade to Pro, which I did right away, you get a faster speed - Turbocharged - as I recall, and the whole operation is a bit smoother.

But, even the free Limewire is wonderful. I've use kazaa.com and others, but nothing compares to Limewire.

6. I realize you don't have high speed and neither do I. I found

this post on another web site and found it very interesting. I know with my slow dial up, I probably could never get it to work. But, if someone here with high speed and wants free music in MP3 you might give this a try!

READ THIS...This a find like no other...

For those of you who are Winamp users and broadband subscribers, as I am, I listen to Shockwave radio (free high quality streaming music, WITH ID3 Tags). Anyway, I found several stations on thier site that have become my favorites and used it as a reference tool when I was watching the tunes and would write down the song names and go from there. The other day I stumbled upon a program on CNET called Stream Ripper, and man, this thing is OUT OF THIS WORLD. It works as a simple add-on to Winamp, and it rips every song, WITH ID3 Tag, that the internet radio station plays. EVERY SONG! Forget downloading, writing down, searching for songs, etc. Put the station on before bed, press the rip button, and you wake up the next day with several hundred crisp 128-190 bit songs, with ID3 tags, categorized (and even dumps repeats into a junk directory). CHECK THIS OUT. I promise you you will be amazed. (You'd think I was an advertisement or something!). I'll try and post the sites to these below...

(For those of you who are new to Winamp...try it, just stick with the older 2.91 version, 3.0 is buggy and slow)

that's one nice tool that you found - had some difficulties to install it though - wouldn't run first as I also had Winamp3 on my machine - after uninstalling (it sucked anyways) it worked perfectly and I'm ripping like Jack...

Okay, I figured it out, and it IS really cool.

Install your favorite version of WinAmp (I use WinAmp 3, but others have complained about its stability; it works OK for me).

Install the matching version of StreamRipper

Configure StreamRipper to save the MP3s somewhere.

Download a ShoutCast .pls file and open it in WinAmp.

Finally got around to trying this... simply amazing. I could fill up my entire Neuros using this in no time. Incredible variety of music, all free and really nice quality. Great way to get a bunch of songs that you might not have otherwise heard and all the current radio hits too. Not sure about the legality of it but it doesn't seem like it would be any less legal that recording from FM radio so I'm not feeling too guilty.

And unless you want to rip and burn cds with it (which you can do more effectively with other free programs) it's completely free.

16. WinMX is what I used

Until I stopped for moral reasons (it might not technically be stealing, but copyright infringement is still wrong.) WinMX has a lot of queues (where you have to wait in line to download a song,) but it probably isn't being as heavily targeted by the RIAA as Kazaa. WinMX also has no spyware.
