college Drag show tryouts! which song should I preform to?
I haven't dressed in drag since I was ten and my sister dressed me up. What song should I tryout with?
I was thinking Barbie girl or Romeo (basement jaxx) What are your suggestions.

25. Great drag queen song!
Or... how about something from Hedwig & the Angry Inch. Hedwig is one of the best drag characters ever created and there are some great songs on the soundtrack to choose from. Beside, they are written for a middle to high range man's voice, so they're quite a bit easier to pull off if you need to sing.

10. It's a REAL oldie!
It's by Rogers and Hammerstein, from the show "Flower Drum Song."

14. Yeah I remember that!
South Pacific right? That would be a good one. It's definitely an improvement over ass-chaps and "its raining men" (nothing wrong with the song itself; I just like more subtelty).

3. A singularly *puissant* choice
"F**k My Pussy" by Pussy Tourette.

Beyond drag. Beyond TG. Beyond just about anything.

7. That's probably a little bit more over the top than I would want to go
Edited on Fri Oct-31-03 04:34 PM by jabuchan
I just want to dress like a girl for one night - it's not exactly a lifestyle choice. I do want to be genuine though. Last year a bunch of frat-guys pretty much demeaned the whole idea of the show. The GLBT president even wrote a scathing editorial about it. I just want to bring it back to respectibility.

I'm trying to go for classy.

6. On a very early SNL, a "construction worker" stripped down
to lace panties, nylons and a bra while singing, "I've Gotta Be Me." That was pretty radical for network TV in 1974. It might be fun to steal that.

9. I'll tell you what you should wear
You should throw on a pair of leather ass chaps, a vest, and wear some high heel pumps without a strap.

11. Class ladies and gentleman,
class. I can't emphasize that enough. The whole problem with last years show was who sexist and homophobic it was last year. They turned it into one big sexist gay joke, and I want to make it fun . . .but classy.

15. I go to DU, the shows not for a while yet, but I was looking ahead on the
school calender, and since I didn't get to do it last year, I figured I'd get an early start. I don't want to be the guy in the ridiculous wig acting like a bimbo for laughs. I'd rather be the guy in the stylish wig acting like a _real_ woman to induce nervous giggles from my friends.

18. Ahh..!
I went to the University of Mississippi (was prez of the GLBA there for two years), and we co-sponsored an annual drag show that was actually put-on by the very conservative frat boys there. They really got into it, really..

The last year I was there though, it turned more into a man-in-woman's clothes beauty pageant. The guys were wearing tiny tops to show-off their toned midsections, which was very pleasing to the mostly sorority and & gay male audience.

Who would've guessed though? At Ole Miss - a popular drag show? Weird..

23. unfortunately I don't have the body for a tube top.
I'm nice and thin - so I don't have to go for the frumpy sweater look, but I have to ugly a chest to go for anything low-cut. I'd like to go with my natural hair as well, but I'm not sure I have enough time to grow it out.

16. one of my early thoughts was - why be feminine just because it's a drag
show. It had occured to me to be a rawk grrrl, but I wasn't sure how to balance femininty and attitude in one package. That'd be a good song to try that idea out though.

17. "Navy Blue" by Diane Renay.
It's a cute, bouncy girl group number from the early 60's about a young lady whose beau has gone away to join the Navy. If you can find you a bouffant wig, a smart little sailor suit, and a couple of backup singers, you will be the ne plus ultra of fabulosity!

Diane is still around--here's her website: http://www.dianerenay.com/
