Car stopped on freeway.
It's night.
You can fill in the rest. :wow:

1. I thought that only happened in Indiana!
Except here, it's usually in the middle of a rainstorm or snowstorm, just to make the swerving more challenging!

Hope your heart rate is back to normal. Have a beer! :beer:

:hi:

4. I'm going to show this to my husband, who always urges me not to
worry when I keep up with the traffic! Speed kills -- I know! I leave a TON of space between me and the car in front -- regrettably, people behind me do a lot of tailgating.

Any link to find out how these poor souls are doing?

16. In the NOVA area
(northern VA) they don't just stop they come at you full speed from the wrong direction. (lol on the side) had it happen a couple of times. Once on a county road and once on I 95. Nothing like seeing headlights coming at you on a one way high speed road.
(Never quite understood that. It's a straight line for the most part - steering not really required)

8. Naw, I don't. I've been up since 5AM cleaning and reorganizing my house.
I'm too tired to sleep -- I tried. Must try again pretty soon. My son, daughter-in-law and two grandkids arrive tomorrow from Salt Lake City, UT. We have an agenda for the visit that looks like plans for an invasion! Yikes!

I should be sleeping now, but I'm just goofing off. My husband ate all of the turkey salad I made today (three portions) and I haven't eaten anything. Damn his hide!

Talk next week when I come up for air -- they'll be here until Friday, June 24th. I'm not much for entertaining, but I have to do this one. Wish I could be more relaxed -- but I had to reorganize three rooms in order to make space for them. It's been a bit exhausting.

Have a good day tomorrow in case I miss you!!!

Warm regards from Radio Lady in Oregon.

10. No wonder you can't sleep!
You're exhausted, hungry and pissed off at your husband! I'd have trouble sleeping too...but I'd sure as hell be going after any husband of mine who did such a crummy thing to me...plus, I'll bet he hasn't helped get the house ready! (I really hope he did...)

But if I don't see you tomorrow...then you need to get my message tonight: On Thursday, my husband and I will be taking off for 3 weeks on an overseas trip. I won't be back until the middle of July...

I hope you have a fun time with your family; now go find something to eat so you'll relax and get some sleep!

Please take care of yourself...you matter around here, and to your family as well...

11. i nearly got killed 10 years ago EXACTLY like that
i was a passenger in a cab that stalled out in the middle land of an interstate highway at 11:15pm.

naturally, we were rear-ended at a rather high speed.

naturally, also, the cab had no seat belts in the back, and i was a fanatic about wearing seat belts BEFORE that accident, you can imagine what i'm like now.

they had to pry me out with the jaws of life, the cab was totaled.

i escaped with:
-a smashed nose and septum (to the point where i couldn't breath out of more than one nostril at a time, sometimes not at all), requiring surgery;
-a torn rotator cuff, to the point where i couldn't lift a pencil in certain positions, another surgery;
-temporomandibular joint dysfunction (tmd), to the point where i couldn't chew food for over a year;
-torn ligaments all up an down my spine;
-two bulging discs in my neck, causing great pain and limiting my movement, though this has mostly healed over time;
-4 solid months of non-stop headache, eventually settling down to 12-18 migraines monthly, which continues to this day.

and a whole host of less serious ailments, most of which mostly subsided after the first year.

needless to say, that video was not easy for me to watch.

13. What happened to the other driver?
And who was judged at fault?

14. new jersey is a "no-fault" state
Edited on Sun Jun-19-05 01:46 AM by unblock
but both the cab's insurance and insurance of the car behind paid out. though, medical bills and lawyers took the lion's share, and i couldn't document the full extent of the economic damage (how can you prove your bonus was too low?)

"fault" comes in to play when the insurance companies negotiate with each other, but that was out of my sight since they both had to pay. whether one reimbursed the other, i don't know.

though, i would guess that the car behind would have been at least 90% at fault.

i believe my cabbie was a F*#$%CKING IDIOT for not pulling over as the cab was slowing down, but i'm sure they were able to argue (lie) that he was prevented from doing so for one reason or another (traffic, steering locked up, whatever). i could have testified that he never even tried, despite my SCREAMING at him to pull over, but no one ever asked me.

in the e.r., i was told that the cabbie was in "about the same shape you are", and i never found out about the guy behind.

17. My buddy's little brother got in a pretty messed up accident a while back
Was driving through Florida, going up a steep hill, and plowed into the back of an ancient Mercury Cougar that was parked in the middle of the highway with lights turned off. He totaled his car, and his buddy had quite a bit of injuries.

When the cops got to the scene, they saw a blouse about 15 feet away from the car, and some pants another 5 more feet. Apparently, a large woman who was high as a kite decided to go skinny dipping in a canal in the middle of the night.

My buddy's brother was at fault because apparently they have a law out there that says you're supposed to drive no faster at night than it would take for you to stop should you see something in the road. Something like that. People were amused cuz this kid always gets in the worst situations like a big black cloud follows him around. He's the one that was trying to show off while bowling and managed to take down 2 grand worth of disco lighting at the bowling alley.
