Have mosquitoes become extinct?

Ok, its June 19, there's been plenty of rain, and I haven't seen a single mosquito yet this year. I take my dog for long walks in the woods, and I can never remember going this late in the spring/summer without getting a bite. Its so pleasant taking walks without bugs, but I am wondering why?

Of course, for saying this, I'll get a dozen in my house overnight!

They don't spray for them here. Only possibility I've heard is that the bat population is doing a lot of work!

They're here in southeast Texas, and as usual they're the size of baseballs. I get huge welts whenever I get nabbed by one of the freakin' bloodsuckers; one or two good bites on my leg, and I can't walk for 2 days. :grr:

those are my fond memories of new hampshire. besides the frigid january (the high for the day is -2 for two weeks) and the still humid days before a big storm. garrison keillor once said it was 100 degrees and 98% humidity - too hot to read. that's how i felt about new hampshire.

I've been in SoCal for the past 25 years and forgot about how miserable a NH summer is.
First three days were 95 degs @95% humidity. Next four dyas 48-52 degs, rain and drizzle.

i normally see about one mosquito a year here, but this year we had a very wet winter and spring, and i have seen at least three of them in my house every night lately. i am chewed up!

18. In This Part Of Maryland We're Having The Same Good Fortune As You Are...

This time last year, we were completely OVERRUN with the bloodsuckers! Even during the day, they would come out to feed. They were the aggressive Asian Tiger Mosquitos (the ones with black & white stripes on their legs).

This year... so far, so good. But I've got my pump-sprayer and Malathion concentrate at the ready for whenever they do decide to appear.

with the Mosquito Magnet and the UV zapper in the last week, and there are still plenty left.

these buggers are HUGE. The only good thing is they're easier to see and hear as they whine their way towards you.

35. I'm in WI also

I was just outside while my husband was mowing the lawn. I didn't see or feel any. I would think that the weather would be favorable for them. When I lived in Ohio, mosquitoes seemed to be around even on warm winter days so it shouldn't be too early for them or anything. I'm not too worried, I am sure that they are lurking around somewhere. Even if they have temporarily died off here, I am sure that they'll spread from the rest of the U.S.

36. I moved to southern WI 5 years ago and the mosquitoes have

always been voracious after the first of June. The only mosquito free times are if we've had very cold nights or several weeks without rain. I guess I should just enjoy it.
