On the floors at home, in shoes I have never worn at the stable... once I lost mud and straw on the ancient persian carpet of my publisher. He did not look amused...

10. Yikes!

Yes, my old guy (we think he is around 30-35) looks like a big, hairy goat until it gets really hot then he drops it all at once. The others shed over a period of several months since they are all ages. It sounds like mine are a bit reversed from yours but those months are busy and messy. Thankfully I am not allergic. That must be fun, sheesh!

always said my little one must become at least 35 :) We'll see - but the older one looks his age unfortunately and has very loose teeth. How many do you have?

12. I have 7, crazy no?

I did not mean to have 7 but you know how that goes. I had a breeding program all started but the economy has stopped that. So I have all these mares, I really love the mares! One baby is for sale but I will not let her go for cheap since she was bred to the max and is performing top of her age group around here. I will then be down to 6. One other was for sale but he is past his performing prime so I will probably just bring him back home. Then I will somehow have to find a way to get 2 more stalls, probably a portable that I will not be able to afford until the baby is sold. I have given up all but just having them for fun. This cutting horse show stuff has become the sport for movie stars and sports stars thus the small guy, me, has been driven from it. That is OK, they still are a constant source of love, fun and something to do every day in my retirement.

My old guy is sway backed and has navicular disease but seems happy. I have to take special care of him because the others push him around so he is spoiled (as he should be).

I forget what breed you have, do they have a history of longevity? Quarter horses have been know to reach 50 but that is unusual. I am shooting for it though. I adore my old guy. He is worthless as far as riding, is not papered but he was my first and is my very favorite. When he goes he will take a large part of my heart with him.

13. 50?As far as I know the oldest European horse reached 46.

(There might be older ones I didn't read about, though). Our oldest is a Trakehner; usually a very hardy breed, but he was brought up and kept wrong (not by us); used to do very well at eventing. The younger is an Arab-Barbe which I bought in France and he was unbeatable at cross country rallyes - he would have deserved a better rider than me. -

Having seven horses would be one of my dreams :) My girlfriend used to have six at one time, all breeding mares (Trakehner) plus an old guy like you have. Ours are not ridden anymore even though they could but I can't ride anymore. But they're my children and as you say they give me something to do every day. Unfortunately my health is not good anymore and I have seen very clearly this week that I must find some kind of help.

"When he goes he will take a large part of my heart with him." It's the same with me. I love the older, too, very much, but my little rat is very, very precious and special to me. I own the best 14 years of my life to him :)

14. We are one on this love of our horses.

I always wanted to do cross country or endurance racing but lacked the proper breed or the time if I had the proper breed. It is also difficult to do mountain training here in Kansas!

I saw and posted on your earlier thread. I do not know much about your health but 51 is NOT old. I am 51 and feel better than I ever have, I could lose a few pounds and feel even better but with all the aging illnesses I still feel better than ever. I think a good part of this has to do with being outside with my horses or working the farm. I hope you are able to easily get back to good health.

17. The TOAD!

He is still around! He is an American toad and he is a he, he called all spring and my neighbor at the farm is a herpetologist and he looked at him and confirmed my suspicions.

At least one time per day he will hop right out into the aisle so I see him. He sits there and waits, I scratch him and then he hops over to a wet spot in the shower stall. I really think he does it on purpose and he always leans into my finger as I rub him. I can actually get him to raise up on his back legs if I scratch him just so. My friend told me that while frogs don't really care for handling toads seem to enjoy it so my experience holds true I guess.

I did name him and ended up with the name HypnoToad in honor of our DU resident HypnoToad but I have never mentioned it here. I think I will start a thread for HypnoToad right now. He should know he has a namesake.

There are a few horse folks here, CottonBear comes to mind right away. I have never checked the Pets Forum but I'll bet there is a section there with several.
