Poll question: Best Center/Big Man in NBA History.
Wilt was a monster. Once averaged 50.4 pts a game in 1960-61.
But Russell had the 11 rings.

1. Wilt could dominate every player in the league, except Russell.
Russell blocked his shots and covered him like glue.

22. I'd pay good money to see a picture of ANY shot by Wilt that
was blocked by Russell. Didn't happen. Ever.
BTW when Wilt got 44 rebounds in a single game?
The other guy in the building was #6.

PG- John Stockton
SG - Michael Jordan
SF - Scottie Pippen
PF - Karl Malone
C - Hakeem Olajuwon

I loved those guys.

12. I'd agree with Hakeem Olajuwon, too.
He brought the entire team to a new level.

4. No doubt it's Wilt, he single handedly changed the...
game. He and Jordon are the only players that can claim that.

6. Russell's play instituted rule changes.
And was the first player to really focus on defense. He blocked shots when nobody else was.
Plus he has 11 rings. Wilt has 2?

5. Russell played against Wilt and Wilt always lost
Russell is the best center period. And whoever voted for Shaq is just too young to know good centers. When I look at the box scores and see Wade out rebounded Shaq in a game, I just laugh.

7. The best
well he was the first player to score three thousand points in a season, the first and only player to score four thousands points in a season, averaged fifty points for an entire season, scored one hundred points in a game.Led the league in assists(the only center to ever do that).Never fouled out of a game,(during his entire career). The big dipper was the best.

9. Hakeem Olajuwon
2 titles with the Rockets in the mid-90's. All time career NBA leader in blocks. 11th all-time in rebounds. Schooled Shaq in the 94-95 Finals. Torched David Robinson in the playoffs. Incredible finesse for a big man.

Hakeem would be up there.

I'll have to go with... .....stalling for time....... Moses was a forward so he is out (best player ever IMHO)........ I'd go with... uh...... probably Hakeem.

11. Robinson was too much of a "nice guy".
And was often portrayed as "soft".
Wilt and Russell would have eaten him alive.

14. in a pick up game who i would take first is Russ. he wanted to win more.
i grew up watching chamberlin in phila, first as a warrior then 6er. the battles he had with russell were the realized myths of titians to a kid like me. i go back far enough to have seen them play at the old convention hall.

chamberlin was the best player to ever play. he was a single man machine whenever he wanted to be, except when russell was on the court.

kareem is probably not considered the best because he was a black man who converted to islam in the '60s and the press turned on him (along with that pussy sucker punch he pulled on hap harriston).

but the next guy afer Russell i would pick if i was about to walk onto a court...in his prime, without injury is Walton. he was second in big man d only to russell, could shoot and pass in the pivot like no one else. he also had a more competitive drive than chamberlin or kareem.

Kareem or Bill Russell.
