My #1 pet peeve: people who interrupt.
Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 06:09 PM by Bouncy Ball
I'm not talking about people jumping in when you pause, that's something most people do and it's an understood part of casual conversation.

I mean people who cut you off EVERY single time you try to speak.

I sit with a woman like that. For eight hours a day. I have nine more days. No one in the class will trade places with me because of her and you have to sit with a group, no sitting by yourself. And there are 16 students, enough for four groups of four. No groups of five.

I'm going to talk to the professor privately. When you drive home and want to kick someone hard the whole way, something needs to give.

Oh, she also asks people questions, then immediately jumps into another conversation. You don't even have a chance to answer.

Today I was talking to the guy in our group about camping and she kept fucking interrupting us. It wasn't even ABOUT camping, she kept talking about some computer game. And she's loud. Finally, I stopped and glared at her and she went back to what she was doing. Tomorrow, the first time she does it I'm telling her to stop interrupting people. You can't finish a sentence around her. Literally. Ever.

What's bugging YOU today? :D

1. I know some people who do that and it is very frustrating
One person I know who does it is really a nice guy - so I gently said "do you realize how often you interrupt?" and he had a comeback for it which basically denied that he does it.

If they can't hear you, they will never know they're interrupting.

2. Just tell her to shut up
Why not? She's so rude, she really would have no right to be offended if you did. You shouldn't have to put up with that in a learning environment.

I told her to shut up all the way home. :D Tomorrow it'll be in person.

At first, she didn't really do it much, but I guess as she gets to know people, she interrupts them more and more. Every morning I say I'm just not going to talk to her, but we have to work in our group.

She reminds me of a kid who was never taught any manners. Funny thing is, at lunch she was bitching that her mother always interrupts her.

Uh. Hello?

4. I HATE THAT.
There are several people in my life who do this to me on a daily basis. All you really have to do is inhale, and they get it as their cue to "SPEAK OR DIE". I take good manners for granted sometimes (rarely). But when I've finally got around to responding to the person, and they interrupt me, I begin feeling quietly violent.

Oh, how do you like this one: a person askes you a question, seeking your input, and as you inhale to answer the question, they say, "the reason I ask is...." and then they go on a tangent and don't really notice when you walk away.

5. That's especially bad with someone like me
who doesn't dominate conversations to begin with. Then to have a person like an interruptor commandere the entire discussion it's hard for me to get in a word in edgewise.

7. I hate it when people interrupt you and hijack the conversation
Especially when you are trying to tell them something important.

8. My two cents
You have nine days left in class so why do you let it go. She might be thinking the same thing about you and if she is boisterous she might start a fight. It's not worth it.

13. That's when you just interrupt right back
in an even louder voice
"don't you hate people that interrupt"
or something like that. They say 2 wrongs don't make a right, but I find this gets my point across.

14. Dealt with one of these today at my insurance company.
Trying to get my insurance straightened out since they need more information or they will cut me off (partially subsidized health insurance in WA, good deal, sliding scale). I got a letter that said I had to fill out some missing information on the enclosed form or they would cut my family off the end of June. There was no form enclosed, so I called to ask WTF they wanted, politely of course. The man @ the ins co cut off my question mid-way, ended up telling me that if I would just let him finish repeating "we need a profit and loss statement" that he would save me a bunch of heartache.

At last, I found the way to reduce my heartache!! When I tried asking what he needed for a p&l statement, what proof or just a letter giving number, he cut me off again and said "we have a communication problem here, you're not listening to me."

Argh. When I tried asking WHAT he wanted he kept cutting me off to say "just a P&L statement". I finally asked to be transfered to someone else and he hung up on me. I laughed a while, called back and got a really nice person who told me what to write, what to send, and the other 2 things that I needed that were supposed to also be listed on the letter I got but weren't.

I hate interupters. I interupt a lot, but will at least let someone finish sometimes and not blame them for my interupting.
