How Often Do You Buy Lottery Tickets?
Do you have lucky-numbers, or are you like me and just play the "Quick-Pick" option?

8. me too
but then I know I'm really only paying for the little thrill of the possibility of winning.

My former boss was an expert on statistical risk analysis. He says you spend only $1, and you're only paying for the thrill of playing.

5. Never
And it drives me nuts when my wife buys them.

I don't mean to offend anyone but IMO lotteries are just a tax on people who are bad at math.

12. Oh, it's just for fun
Dreaming what you'd do with the winnings is most of the fun of playing, even though you know you won't win.

I've personally known two people who hit multi millions, and another who hit a 6 figure jackpot, so I figure the odds of it happening to me are partuclarly bad. But, I do play when the pot gets big. It's only a couple of dollars.

15. This is what I say when
my wife says that.

Give me the dollar and I'll give you back a piece of paper with numbers on it.

Just as fun. :)

I'll even let you tell me what numbers you want, if they pay off I'll pay up too. Somehow I still think I'll be the one to come out ahead. :)

17. Sure!

(That's kinda the point. I'm so sure I'll never have to pay up I feel perfectly comfortable making that promise. It's almost like being a republican...you know making promises or unrealistic claims and never being held personally accountable.)

18. It isn't necessarily about expectation of winning
At least not for me. Sure, there are probably some who's expectations are unreasonable because they can't fathom the kind of odds we're dealing with. But, that's not always the case.

19. I can see that
in other forms of gambling.

Although I never have a good time or witness anyone really having a good time at a casino (been about 3 times).

But I do have fun gambling with friends, poker, pools etc...on occasion.

But I don't get it with lotteries. With the other forms you're interacting with people, maybe even exercising a little skill in some games.

Lotteries and slot machines are just beyond my understanding but I know I'm out of the norm these are probably the most popular forms of gambling.

7. My husband used to play daily, he once hit 5 out of 7 days
Edited on Thu Jun-23-05 10:18 AM by notadmblnd
He was pretty good at cyphering numbers. He was also certain that before he died he was going to hit it big time. I usually never play, so many numbers run throught my head that I just cant settle on one.

It's odd you mentioned it because yesterday I had my sister play a number for me because the number 159 kept popping up all day. I haven't check them yet and don't know when I will. I don't feel like it's a winner though, I don't have that kind of luck.

9. I only buy them if I go to Louisiana b/c Mississippi
doesn't have the Lottery (but we have casinos WTF?). LA is not too far from here and I have to go over there for work sometimes. I pick up a powerball ticket with random numbers and I like the scratch offs.

14. Usually twice a week. Five tix each time.
The drawings here in Fla are on Wed & Sat nights. If the jackpot is starting over then I wait till the next time. I don't think its a big loss of money. I don't have any other major vices.

21. maybe 3 or 4 times a year
i pick the numbers when i get the slip. this is going to make me sound like a real loon...i sit there and wait for the numbers to show up in my head before i mark them down. my great-grandfather was a psychic, so dammit...if i have any kind of a gift, i want it to work for the lottery numbers.

That way I always have one ticket, and I can just look at the results because I know what my numbers are.
