Katie Holmes' Missing Days
Katie Holmes' Missing Days

The newly engaged Katie Holmes still has some explaining to do to her friends and family.

There were 16 days in April during which no one seems to know where she was.

Holmes made a public appearance on April 4 at the premiere of "Steel Magnolias" on Broadway.

She came with her publicist, Leslie Sloane Zelnick, and a couple of other friends. They were there to support Rebecca Gayheart, who was making her Broadway debut.

4. The Morning Cruise: Suppressive Outlets Banned From ‘WOTW’ Red Carpet
The Morning Cruise: Suppressive Outlets Banned From ‘WOTW’ Red Carpet
Today’s Rush & Molloy column in the NY Daily News reports that the War of the Worlds folks have finally tired of “journalists” and their insistently suppressive prose and banned all print media from tonight’s premiere in New York City. Well, not all print media, as they’ve granted something of a exclusive to People magazine, whose planned twenty-page spread of Tom Cruise personally feeding an entire nursery full of crack-addicted kittens from a medicine dropper probably had nothing at all to do with their Most Favored Rag status.

But who needs red carpet access when we have the journalistic free-for-all of junkets? A reader sends us a report from yesterday’s WOTW press orgy, where a new hero for these troubled times emerged:

I just came from the WAR OF THE WORLDS press junket, which featured a joint press conference between Spielberg and Tom Cruise. There were two highlights - that it took 20 minutes for a Katie Holmes question to be asked (Spielberg timed it) was one. The best, though, was the reporter from the Boston Phoenix asking Tom Cruise if the fact that the aliens in the film have been on Earth for a million years waiting for the invasion resonated with him due to Scientology’s belief in aliens.
Tom sputtered for a few moments and got very visibly annoyed (he was otherwise in super-creepy cheerful mode the whole time) and denied the alien/Scientology connection, asked if the Boston Phoenix was a reputable paper and then listed about four Scientology books the guy should read to educate himself on the matter.

I was not able to see if Thetan-clear thugs took care of the reporter after the press conference.

11. I know you disapprove of this dog piling on, and that's true.
Things come up that people take an interest in. They can get very excited about these things. Sometimes it's something that combines a silly celebrate pop culture side with a more serious and controversial political side. Pope Benedict XVI was a bit like that, with all sorts of Pope threads being posted. I'm just saying "Hey look! There's Scientology going on here!" encouraging those who care to look to examine it for themselves. I respect you, and hate to let you down, but sometimes I am a dog piler. I like them in their movies and on TV and have nothing against them as persons. Their Scientology however moves me to dog pile.

Tom Cruise has hired a Scientology official to look after girlfriend Katie Holmes during her publicity tour for new movie 'Batman Begins'.

The Hollywood heartthrob has reportedly asked church representative, Jessica Rodriguez, to join the 26-year-old beauty as she promotes the summer blockbuster around the world.

A source told America's New York Post newspaper: "Tom pays Jessica to 'Keep Katie on the path'.

"She goes everywhere with Katie - she's never more than a quarter-step behind her".

Insiders claim the controversial cult representative has already attracted anger from movie bosses.

If they were there, no one saw them.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes apparently skipped the big after-party for the New York premiere of "War of the Worlds" last night.

No big deal: Sources also say that the Steven Spielberg science-fiction remake is the most expensive film of all time.

My spies — since no press was allowed — did spot Spielberg and wife Kate Capshaw. They also saw actress Amy Irving, the first Mrs. Spielberg, and the couple's son, Max Spielberg.

15. I really like Scarlett too, but I don't automatically..
dislike anyone who's into Scientology. Plus, I've liked Katie for a while. Maybe Katie's parents are finally waking up to this situation? I hope they can talk Katie out of this. I was surprised they approved to begin with.

18. I thought The Lounge was an "entertainment board".
If you're going to go after things in The Lounge for being distractions, you're going to be very busy. If anything I probably post too much semi-serious stuff in here.

20. It is pretty weird
See, this is creepy as is. But given Cruise's insane performance on Today, people are not cutting him slack and this is high level creepy.

I mean, the guy seems unhinged and unlikable, which is no secret in Hollywood, where the word asshole has long followed his name. Whereas Brad Pitt is taking pictures with African kids and a big smile. His soon to be ex-wfie? Who? Jen...whatshername? Whatever.

Steve Gilliard had a good take on it:

But Cruise doesn't seem to get where this is leading. No one believes Holmes is in love with him. Everyone is just shy of calling her a beard. They're selling "Free Katie" t-shirts. At some point, someone is going to discuss in detail Tom's alleged bisexuality. This PR nightmare must be making Pat Kingsley cringe. Cruise's association with the space religion and it's wacko beliefs hasn't been such a big deal in the past. But when Weeman Cruise goes after women with post-partum depression and gets a "fiance" who is way too young and frankly, not his type, people wonder.

Now, Holmes is cute, but Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman are sexy. Penelope Cruz doesn't drive me nuts, but she's a woman. Not a woman-child like Holmes. But Kidman? She may play cute, but she's sexy. Holmes is cute, not sexy. She's like the girl you date, but don't marry.

Cruise doesn't seem to get that Kingsley saved his career from his worse impulses. His sister can't and the wackjobs at space religion HQ can't.
