What to do about a bird's nest in my window pane?

There has been some chirping that's been driving me crazy, so I removed the air conditioner from my window to reveal -- a bird's nest with about four baby birds nestled in the bottom of the window pane.

I debated whether to remove the birds, but I would have no idea what to do with them, so I replaced the AC.

How long does it normally take for these things to finally leave the nest and fly away?

1. Not long...

If they're robins, for example, the momma bird will kick them out of the nest in a couple of weeks. They grow up fast!

I was too lazy to google for it, but my brother-in-law is the state "bird guy" in our region of Switzerland. When he comes by in the next hour, I'll ask him what you should do. Meanwhile, I wouldn't touch the nest if I were you.

If the baby birds have feathers, it'll take about a month for them to fly away. You should just leave them where they are. If you've touched the nest, my brother-in-law says it won't cause the mother bird to reject the babies. Just stop touching it and leave everything as is.

a morning dove built a nest right outside my bedroom window and currently there in one egg in there...mama's been spending a lot of time in the nest lately so hopefully it'll hatch soon...i have to move out at the end of this month and i'd like to see it happen

9. Ahhhh the baby birds under the air conditioner..we had it annually

for years and years. I just read a few years ago that if you want to prevent it, take screen and roll it up and place it under your window unit. It's flexible enough the birds won't land on it. We've been doing it now for about 3 years and it works!

I love birds but I hated cleaning up the nests in the fall. The nests would sometimes be filled with little bugs ewwwwwwww..not to mention the bird droppings all over the window sill.

The birds will only be there a few more weeks. They really do grow fast.

Might I suggest earplugs, especially if the chirping is in your bedroom? Don't get the foam kind, get the squishy plastic kind used for swimming. I find them very easy to sleep in and they cut the noise just enough to enable me to drop off at night in a noisy environment.

12. i have sparrows in my porch gutters

and starlings in my roof gutters.

i know what to do about them, but can't actually bring myself to displace a living nest. i just got used to it.

i have a causual attitude about it, but one day, during a thunderstorm, the all took refuge under my porch and shit all over everything. i was a little irked, don't they get it? i allow them to live in my gutters and they don't even have the courtesy to not shit on my stuff.

birds are ingrates, but i can't drive them out.
