Anyone living there, did you know there are places in the United States that are not a replica of HELL? My soul, that myth about it not feeling hot because they don't have humidity is bullshit. 116 is hot, so hot that your nose siezes up and your skin flakes off and at night you wake up with no spit in your entire body. Can ya tell I didn't like it much?

I actually left a pen on the dashboard of my car in Phoenix once. The plastic got so hot that the pen bent and took the shape of the little slot it was in.

8. No. My son had to go back to work on Monday

so we left and went to Prescott, which was lovely. It was in the mid ninety range, but much cooler at night. I like that town, so funky and cool. I have a nephew and his wife who lives there and we had a great time. I just didn't like Phoenix, not the whole state.

And you're right. That stuff about it not feeling hot because it's not humid is a big steaming pile of cow flop.

Stepping out into a nice 115 degree afternoon feels like walking into a blast furnace.

If it's anything like Palm Springs, you basically drive everywhere and don't spend much time outdoors unless you're close to a pool.

and I am trying to be accepting but every time I went from the car into another air conditioned space my face would sieze into this mask. He said, "gosh mom you don't need to make that face", I said yes I do in order to draw a breath!

So I'm usually there once or twice a year.


There are some beautiful places in Arizona, but Phoenix isn't one of them.

9. I had to go this time of year because of the prices

now I know why. My son is going to school there so I hadn't seen him for months. He doesn't like it much either but that is where he has to be to get the education he wants.

Phoenix isn't bad for a city, but it's relatively conservative and packed tight enough that the city makes a lot of heat off of roads and vehicles. I'd take Tucson or Flagstaff any day over it (and I'm prejudiced against Central, GCU, and ASU anyways :)) They currently much more spread out and progressive.

he has no time between sessions and had just started a job to pay his way (outside, but the most money he could make). He misses Michigan a lot and I will bring him home over the holidays if I have to get a second job to do it.

We set up travelocity to let us know about cheap deals. Also, if you are flexible about time, dates, and carriers, hotwire's always been the cheapest for me.

12. Question: My son has only a motorcycle

to get around. He says in traffic he sometimes gets so hot he can't stand it and can't touch the brake because the handles burn. Of course he is exaggerating, but any of you have any tips for riding in that blast furnace that might help? I will pass them along. We are from Michigan, so hot weather tips are not plentiful, you just go to the lake or ride near it.

I've gotten 1st degree burns from my steering wheel. Gloves and leather. AZ has nasty motorcycle accidents because riders don't wear leather clothing (it doesn't just look good - it's very functional). I'm sure local shops have rubber grip covers too (at least we had them for our BMX bikes when I was a kid). Bikes are great too because you can park them in shady spots inaccessible to cars.

In the end, he'll either acclimatize or suffer.

16. I have been worrying every since I left him.

He said 35th street which he was taking was just too hot with all the stop lights, so he is taking 17 insted. He is wearing a helmet though. I would buy him a car right now if I could afford it and he would take it. He really wants to do this on his own without help.
