 It was put in there before I was born and the guy who owns the house now just cut it out. I remember sitting on the front porch in the spring singing with my grandmother smelling that smell. Now when I smell it I think of her. I can't believe they just cut that out. Makes me miss her all the more... Duckie

My mom had lilac bushes all over the back yard when I was growing up. The smell always reminds me of home. When I finally bought my own house, I planted lilacs because of this.

My mom just planted one. It's three little sticks coming out of the ground now, and this was the first year there were actually flowers on it. I can't wait until it gets big! Duckie

This happened to me too. My family moved to a bigger house and the people that bought our old house ripped up all of the fruit trees. :(
Some people don't know what they're missing.

The people who moved into the house I grew up in completely destroyed my mom's 30 years of landscaping. I know they own the place and all, but it seemed so harsh. It makes me depressed to drive by there because it looks terrible now and doesn't go with the memories I have of living there.

6. Did they already get rid of all of it? |
|
If not, is there anyway you could go by and get some clippings and root and plant them? (I think that's possible?) That way you can have the something of your Grandma's forever.
I hope it's not too late.
I'm sad for you...

8. Highly probable, really. |

Lilacs send out underground shoots. They can be quite insidious. If they've just cut the above ground portion the lilacs may well be thriving under the surface. See what you can do to save a bit. If all else fails, may I suggest a small lilac in a pot (for apartment dwellers). It won't be the same lilac, but it may help to ease the sting of loss. You can name it for your grandmother and talk to her while you water it.

For some reason, some people just don't like them. My dad always had a thing against lilacs. Every time we'd move anywhere and there was a lilac bush, its days were numbered. I never understood it. We don't get lilacs around here and I miss them. I'd have one if I lived in a climate zone that they tolerated.

10. I'm sorry I know how that feels |

I rarely get back to Illinois and it's so hard to go by my grandparent's house and see the changes. The big walnut trees are gone, so is the pear and apple tree. It just makes you heart sick doesn't it?
