She went to the animal shelter today with her Dad to pick out a puppy to adopt. They ended up with "Gus" a six-month old JRT/mix. He is so cute and friendly - she loves him!

Her Dad's been wanting to adopt a puppy, and since he's now retired, he can take care of it at his place. I met them at the shelter to help with the decision, and this little boy is adorable!

4. Oh, he is VERY wired!

When they brought him into the viewing room, he made a beeline for me, jumped onto my lap, kissed my face, jumped over to my ex-SO, kissed him, and RAN to Baby Bunny and jumped all over her!

It was cute, but the boy is going to need some obedience training, or quaaludes, or something. Plus, he got a ton of white hair all over my black skirt!

11. Take it from the manservant of 3 JRTs - they are an unmitigated blast.

My personal record with our littlest one is 100 licks to the face before I just had to stop her. She was nowhere NEAR quitting. I've never laughed so hard. (on edit: to clarify, SHE was licking MY face, not vice versa) :eyes:

12. Dad lives in a trailer park, and although there is a very large

grassy area behind his trailer, it is not fenced in. Baby Bunny will be taking Gus for many walks through the trailer park!

13. I cry when I see people leaving shelters w/ a new family member

My friend works at the AZ Humane Society, and it's really embarrassing - I just love the thought of all those critters getting a new home.

When I was your Baby Bunny's age, I spent HOURS training our family dachshund, who ended up being an amazingly well-behaved dog. If your daughter learns the basics of dog training, even a JRT mix might learn some manners! Both kids and dogs love being given a job to do.

14. Thanks! Baby Bunny hasn't mastered the training stuff yet.

She thinks you can hold a treat over a dog's head all day. I've tried to tell her that at some point the dog has to be able to "get" the treat, or he'll quit trying!

There is a local pet store that provides free obedience classes to anyone who adopts a dog from the shelter, so Baby Bunny and her Dad will have to get the little guy enrolled.
