Is there something wrong with me?

I got a new boss one year ago. We have had what you might call a rocky relationship. This is the first time in my life I have been in a situation like this. I find it utterly disconcerting.

There have been three occasions when she has read me the riot act. Within a week of this happening....my hard drive on my laptop has freaked out and died.

Twice seemed like a coincidence. Three times??? Now I think I must be exuding some kind of negative energy that kills laptops.

In all seriousness, years ago I had the worst, nastiest two bosses to work for. I know awful it can make you feel---dreading going into work, walking on eggshells so you don't set off an irrational shit storm. It is rough and I hope it gets better for you. :pals:

on the fourth of July I put a really sarcastic, anti Reagan message on my answering machine. The machine died that day - just stopped working (it was a few years old). I had to laugh that I had just gotten a bit too negative on the machine...

On another front.. when I lived in your neck of the woods - I worked for a horrendous boss. So bad that often a coworker and I would periodicially hang out after work and recount each awful act of our boss.. took a third party reflecting on my overall attitude towards life during this time in life to point out that I had never had never let something effect me personally so much that it changed my overall demeanor - that I was suddenly caustic all of the time. Never wanted to give the horrendous boss that much power over me (to change my basic demeanor and personality even during the hours when I wasn't working for her).

I readjusted my work status quickly thereafter (for the same organization - but my time split between two bosses - got consolidated under one boss... and I had started working a second after hours jobs for a school district in a different community and the higher ups realized I could walk in a minute - and for whatever reason - they really didn't want that...

A Dell and a Toshiba. The Dell never worked properly and the Toshiba just needs a thorough vacuum.

Are you getting an "Operating System Not Found" message? If so, try a good cleaning. Maybe the 'puter is a dust catcher. Then again, maybe someone is messing with you...

Be real careful around this boss...*like you don't know that*. It sucks to have to work like that, but since you say you like her as a person maybe there is something that kicks in when she is stressed or in a professional capacity. Happens to men as well. They don't know how to be a "boss" or don't feel adequate to be a boss, so they overcompensate by being overbearing and rude over trivial things.
