Red Lobster does NOT offer a senior citizens discount

My mother loves seafood so we took her to the Red Lobster. When the ticket came we asked if there was a seniors citizen discount. The young waiter said no. When we said there should be one because of today's hardships on the elderly, he agreed. He said to contact Red Lobster at www.redlobster.com or 1-800-redlobster by phone. Red Lobster is out of Orlando and the 800 number left a recording to call back during business hours. So we sent an email.

We need to make corporate America aware that they are squeezing the elderly out. Please send an email or call.

I, for one, would love it if businesses offered "working family" discounts, but that will never happen.

because we all have a RIGHT to eat wherever we want, for as cheaply as we want, and eat whatever we want, and we should all be subsidized, and not be expected to manage a budget.

Sorry, this isn't an attack directed at you; your post (as well as the one below) merely inspired me to think along these lines, so I've put my rant here instead of somewhere else.

Medicare costs $78.20 a month and doesn't cover prescriptions and doesn't really cover office visits. Many older citizens either can't work due to illness or can't find work due to age discrimination, and must manage on a fixed and limited income.

There's no need to make this into a "working family" vs "elderly citizen" battle; undoubtedly, someone you love is old or may one day become ol - including yourself. Just about everyone in this society has some cross to bear, and for the elderly, it's a bit heavier than for those younger and healthier. Admitting that doesn't take anything from me, nor does it make my day any harder.

Many live on fixed incomes. But their taxes go up. Medicare in no way pays 100% of the medical bills.

I thought they'd have one. They're a big company. I read Darden, the parent co. that also owns Olive Garden, had to do some major restructuring some years back.

Maybe they had to rein in on the discounts.

I mean, I understand that you're upset they don't give a discount, but shouldn't you have picked up the tab anyway? My aunt and I always try to do for my Nana and Papaw as much as we can, whether it's taking food to their house to cook or taking them out. I'm not saying there SHOULDN'T be discounts, but if the family members have the funds, why not just pick up the whole tab?

financial hardships, so are business's. It's tough to be in business anymore.

Senior citizen discounts are a nice thing to do, not a requirement.

Perhaps next time you can call ahead at different restaurants to find out who offers a senior discount and who doesn't.

Chances are, there is a better seafood place in your area that doesn't cost much more. You may not be able to get all-you-can-eat-fried-whatever for $8.99, but it'll be better.

Besides -- if you took your mom out, shouldn't you be paying? And I take it you're not elderly too, and thus ineligible for the discount yourself? And you waited until *after* the ticket came to inquire as to whether there was a senior discount?

I think anyone who has to choose between medicine and food (as you indicate below) probably won't be eating at Red Lobster, whether or not they save the 90 cents on the Shrimp-O-Rama.
