18. I am "meeting the parents." |
|
It's also the BF's birthday. This is the first time in almost 12 years I've had to do this.

We're traveling with his toddler, too. Thankfully, she's a champ on airplanes (or so I've heard), but still.

8. Actually, that part of East Texas is gorgeous. |
|
I like it up that a-ways. Big trees, lotsa lakes and ponds, some good country-cookin' type eateries. There's a lot to like in that area of Tejas.

|
Real purty ones, and all. They take a lot of pride in their roses up there, and it's justified.

14. Tyler is gorgeous and laid-back |
|
Been there a few times myself in the past. There is a fundy contingency down there, true, but everyone has that.
Keep the Tyler rose growers in business whenever you can!

16. C'mon , man, you're in LUBBOCK and you're asking that? |
|
The Tyler area is hick to the max., but the countryside around there is spot-on beautiful. There are a couple of bed and breakfasts you should try there.
Truly a relaxing place to be. I love East Texas, especially in the spring and early summer.

It is alright, but I love the Hill Country and Central Texas better.

There are Sarracenia alata there - the pitcher plant native to Texas.

Maybe a day off here and there, but no vacation. I try to plan things like that during times when the kids are in school. Their parents will be at work which means it's easier for me to get time off.

|
So, it will be a laid back week at work with frequent posts on DU.
Other than that, nothing planned... I was already off for a week at the end of May & am saving some time for later this year.

Four conventions and a pile of deadlines. I haven't had a day off since last September. I DO get five days on Vancouver Island, technically working, but it looks like I'll have a half day and every evening except one to myself.

for a conference, down on the riverwalk, of course. But I'm also driving to Houston...I'm told it's a three hour drive. Is it at least a little bit scenic?
