When Michael and I tied the knot (Michigan), we had to sit through a mandatory instructional film about STDs. It was a fucking riot! :D

No blood test, no mandatory counseling.

Most churches require at least one counseling session with the pastor prior to performing the ceremony. My sister did this-her pastor just led them into a discussion about basic relationship issues, how they handle anger and frustration, and similar themes.

It's been a while since I was married, but blood tests were required before getting a license. I believe the blood tests were for syphilis.

I was reading an article that said syphilis was almost completely eradicated in the U.S., with the exception being Baltimore, where it was exploding. At this particular time, the Cleveland Browns had moved there, and Indians nutcase slugger Albert Belle had signed with the Orioles.

I took the opportunity to send a LTTE to the Baltimore Sun explaining the cause and effect of Art Modell and Albert Belle on the public health of their city.
