I'm looking for a Bush quote (1999)
I believe it was to Bob Woodward in "Bush at War." He said something to the effect of "I can only be successful as a war president." Does anyone recall this or have the right quote?

1. Please?
Please? Does anyone at least have a suggestion as to where to find this? I swear I saw it earlier today, but I can't find it now.

Sorry about bumping my own post.

3. I don't think that's the right one

I believe he said it to Bob Woodward. Maybe my memory is flawed, but the quote I'm looking for seemed to indicate that even prior to attacking Iraq (or possibly even being elected) Bush felt that he had to go to war to have a successful presidency.

7. Isn't that what his biographer said?
My memory may not be on target but I seem to recall that biographer that never wrote the book but had * interviews taped. The one who got into some hotwater for revealing things that * said.

4. Here
'One of the keys to being seen as a great leader is to be seen as a commander-in-chief.’ And he said, ‘My father had all this political capital built up when he drove the Iraqis out of Kuwait and he wasted it.’ He said, ‘If I have a chance to invade….if I had that much capital, I’m not going to waste it. I’m going to get everything passed that I want to get passed and I’m going to have a successful presidency.”
