My neighbors are idiots.
I was just outside of my apt building and saw a saucer of pet food and a small cup of water laying there. I assume it would be for the few stray cats that hang around, but it is currently being eaten by dozens of ants.

We've also had a recent problem with possums, which are harmless (though creepy-looking) animals. There is no better invitation for possums than food being left outside. Of course, I know that, as do most people, but that didn't stop one idiot from leaving this food out so God knows what will stop by.

If they really wanted to feed the stray cats, either let them into your apt and feed it inside, or if you want to feed it outside, take the food back in when they're done eating.

A few people in my building have kids, so I hope it wasn't one of them, because the culprit should NOT be breeding.

Sorry, just had to vent.

1. Possums can be vicious when cornered.

Ever had one rear up on it's hind legs and hiss at you? Not to mention the rabies possibility.
You are absolutely right. Toss it in the dumpster.
Edit to add: Welcome to DU!

2. Thanks for the welcome.
So far, none of the possums have hissed at me. I just start to walk toward them, then they scamper away.

3. I was walking my dog one night, and came across one.
Right in the path to my building. He may have been hurt, he didn't look good, but he was very big. Maybe it was my dog's presence that caused his reaction. I sure didn't like it.

4. The ones around here seem fairly big.
At first, I thought they were giant rats, then realized what they actually were. If I had to guess, I'd say they were two feet long, with most of the weight in the body.

5. Sounds about like the one I met.
Oh, and I found one the house more recentlly, living in a drawer in the basement workshop. I wasn't as handy then as I am now.

6. During the Depression of the 1930's possums were called Hoover Hogs.
Many poor people ate them, maybe we should start calling them Bush Hogs.
My father's family was very poor then, and did eat them.

7. Bush Hogs seems appropriate.
Although the possums' work will probably be outsourced to their Australian counterparts, in keeping with the times.

10. My father had many brothers and sisters, so I guess stew was the only
way to make enough.

My mother side of the family lived on a farm during the depression and my grandparents would eat cow brains.
