10 Desert Island Discs
Edited on Sun Jun-26-05 01:25 PM by mark414
no anthologies, no greatest hits, no box sets; in other words, just 10 albums that you would bring should you find yourself stuck on a desert island (and the boombox with you runs on solar power)

01) The Clash - London Calling
02) Public Enemy - It Takes A Nation of Millions...
03) Marvin Gaye - What's Going On
04) DJ Shadow - Endtroducing
05) Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
06) Ice Cube - Death Certificate
07) Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
08) 2Pac - All Eyez On Me
09) John Coltrane - A Love Supreme
10) The Beatles - Abbey Road

and an honorable mention for Stevie Wonder - Songs In The Key of Life

5. I'll play too
I can never really limit it to ten, but here's a stab at it:

The Henry Cow Leg End (original mix)
Frank Zappa: Civilization Phaze III
Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band: Trout Mask Replica
Olivier Messiaen: Quatuor pour la Fin du Temps
Charles Ives' 4th Symphony
Thelonious Monk: Monk and Trane (not sure if this exists as a CD yet, but it should, dammit!)
Grateful Dead: Live Dead
Quicksilver Messenger Service: Happy Trails
the Luis Bonfa solo guitar album on Folkways (I forget the exact title)
French/Frith/Kaiser/Thompson: Live Love Larf & Loaf

But it's gonna hurt not to have any Jefferson Airplane or George Gershwin.

1. Physical Graffiti - Led Zeppelin
2. White Album - Beatles
3. Extended play Trust (w/ bonus tracks) - Elvis Costello
4. Beach Boys - This great mix my father compiled

in the car most of the time. Sorry; some of them are compilations and "greatest hits" albums because some of the originals are old. (Like me)

Alan Parsons - Live
David Lanz - Beloved
Soundtrack - Paint Your Wagon
Soundtrack - Footloose
Mark Lindsay - Arizona
Don McLean - Greatest Hits
John Denver - Greatest Hits
Soundtrack - Somewhere in Time
Alan Parsons - Ammonia Avenue
Soundtrack/concept album - Chess
Soundtrack - Fantasia

I would also like Vivaldi's Four Seasons and Holst's Planets if I could.

I know my taste in music is a little strange, but hey--that's what makes the world go round!

And yes--there are more than 10--I can't count! :D

42. I can't explain why, but I'm not a huge fan of that album.
I love Metropolis II and Train of Thought... I have just never been a big fan of Six Degrees. That is one album where, in almost every song, LaBrie's vocals kill me inside. And the Freeper lyrics in "The Great Debate" are a major turnoff.
