Nasty shrew to the neighbourhood kids...
Background:

Kids playing ball, making racket outside apartment. Aren't allowed to disturb tenants, have made numerous complaints about this problem. Parents obviously cannot care enough to take children to park.

Kids come to my door today, uh, lady our ball is on your balcony.

Uh, I don't have a balcony, I say.
Don't bother me.
If I did have your ball I wouldn't return it, if you want your ball, go see management, you aren't supposed to be playing where you are anyways.

Bye. Slam. :)

Aren't I just nasty?

2. I really like kids though
well behaved ones, not ones that for 2 weeks have been annoying the heck out of me. :)

Oh, so they lost their ball, gee, guess I'm glad it didn't break my window. :sarcasm: :)

5. Playing ball is being well behaved
at least better behaved than some who get tired of playing ball and decide to play 'let's see if we can get a rise out of the old guy'. There is a huge difference between people who are having a noisy good time and those who are being obnoxious jerks. Don't blame the kids just because they do not have their own backyard to play in.

and throwing things off balconies...surprising nobody has been hurt yet.

There's a park a block away, I have no sympathy.

29. as Democratic precinct chair
that provides an opening to "meet the parents". Parks can be scary places, filled with bullies and drug dealers and dirty old men - oh my. Of course, if some neighborhood liberal was to take her copy of "The Overworked American" to the park and supervised the kids, she'd be one of a thousand points of light.
Oops, wrong metaphor. Hey, it takes a village, since the parents are exhausted from working two minimum wage jobs with no health benefits. What else have you got to do? Talk with obnoxious strangers on the internets?
Okay, you have friends here, but unfortunately I showed up. Well I am taking my rhetorical ball and going to work in a matter of seconds.

Edited on Sun Jun-26-05 03:46 PM by Darth_Kitten
and your point again is what?

Actually, life is not always a boiling cesspool of misery and hopelessness, there are choices for people to make, and even some nice places for kiddies to go. But the poor kiddies, they and their parents are just so misunderstood and overworked.

But I may have shown that you need to lighten up. :hide:

3. apartments are not neighborhoods
they are devices that mice use to see how humans react when placed in a torture chamber.
It tends to make them short-tempered.

6. Be thankful they aren't allowed to play basketball outside your window
and give them their ball back.

I know that if that was ~my~ ball on your balcony, which I wasn't getting back, I'd make your life hell on earth - and you'd never be able to prove it was me.

It's not your problem, I recognize that. Still not a nice way to be.

I hope you're happy when those kids go on an obese school shooting rampage because you didn't help them get their ball back and the only thing they had left to do was play murder-simulators on Playstation2

10. I am not saying it is a good thing
just understandable.
Of course, I cannot hear the neighborhood kids playing, because I have my music cranked. Rock and roll party puts me in a better mood. Fortunately, as a home owner, there are no near neighbors to be annoyed by my noise. At least not until I get a bigger sub-woofer or whatever.

30. Adults aren't any better.
Please, I've woken up at 2am with some dumb ass' coming home from the bars in West Hollywood.

Picture it, West Hollywood, CA 3am. A bunch of dumb ass drunk 20 something brats from the valley park mom and dads car on my street. They just got out of some of the clubs up and Sunset BLVD and they can't get one car to start. Hey it's PARTY TIME! Little Missy is dancing in the middle of my street with her shoes off while her drunk ass boyfriend and her Paris Hilton wanna be gal pal scream and hoot and holler to the cranked up music. Brad Pitt wanna be boyfriend and his "buddy" are talking LOUDLY "Dude, this. Dude, that!" on cell phone calling AAA.

I'm standing in my window just taking in all in and dialing the WeHo cops to arrests their asses.

Miss Thang and is still trotting around the street like she's still at the Whiskey a' Go-Go with her dumb ass girlfriend when I notice her little hat ala "Blossom" from that lame assed TV show on her bleached out head.

I yell in my best "Fargo" voice "Hey, Blossom get some shoes on before ya catch cold!".

Little Brad Pitt wanna be yells up at my window "HEY! Suck my DICK!".

I respond (still in Fargo-esse): "I wanna meal not a snack."

Brad wanna be: "FUCK YOU"

Me: "Oh, you kiss your mom with the dirty mouth? I don't think so. <pause> <pause> <pause> Mother fucker!"

My downstairs neighbor is HOWLING laughing.

Cops show up and the party OVER!!!

34. I am too old to think of 20 somethings as "adults"
but really, they were just funning around. It is too bad that the world is so crowded that one person's fun has to spoil somebody else's sleep.

My idea of a jacka$$hole is the one guy at a party who accuses me of taking their beer and starts talking about me to the other party goers. I am the janitor who has to clean up after their party. That dude should be enjoying his party, and maybe even offering me a drink, instead of hassling me. I so wanted to smack him.
So I am on lunch break, and have nothing to read and no TV or radio (anyway the wedding dance music is too loud). And I am sitting there with my feet kicked up, meditating and trying to relax and calm down with some other a$$wipe from the party who is leaving with a girlfriend and another couple comes walking up behind me and yells "hey" really loud. As I recall, I hardly moved a muscle though.
I really wanted to get their license and report a possible drunk driver but they were parked too far away.

17. No, you are a perfectly reasonable person.
Since you don't have a balcony, there's nothing you can do about their ball.

Of course the parents should be taking these kids to the park, but parents who actually raise and take an interest in their children seem to be a minority today. They gave birth, now they want the kids out of the way (as long as they aren't bothering them, it probably doesn't matter what they do). Very sad.

21. Playing ball is a benign activity.
There are other things that they could do that would be much, much worse. Their parents may be working and unable to take the kids to the park.

If you want them to view you as the enemy, they will.

P.s. Knowing kids, I wouldn't leave anything that I valued outside the door if I was you.

24. 'Had our lunch (white tablecloth restaurant) spoiled by parents
who brought a 2 yr old and a 2 month old in for a meal. Thanks for ruining OUR meal, folks! They passed by tons of "family" restaurants to come in this nice, quiet one.
This happens all the time here - we usually "check" before we go in and commit ourselves - this time they "caught" us as they entered after we were seated. I would NEVER have the gall to do this to people at any time but it really boils my blood in the evening in little romantic candlelit places - in they come with the stroller, etc.

39. She doesn't have the ball.
Re-read the original post.

I get the idea that some of you would actually condone retaliation from the kids or their parents.

The kids knocked on the door and said their ball was on her balcony. She replied that she doesn't have a balcony. Therefore, she doesn't have their ball.

It's not like she pulled out her assault rifle and picked them off.

True, she wasn't exactly sweet-as-pie to them, but there is no law that says one must always be sugary-sweet toward children, particularly since this group apparently has no regard for other people (which may be their parents' fault).

I used to be a kid. Not all adults were nice to me. My self-esteem was not irreparably harmed. These kids will probably be alright, too.

38. Free Ball!

Screw the little bastards. I can't stand obnoxious, loud, inconsiderate children and the parents who won't - or can't - control them. If I'd have behaved like my neighbor's children do when I was their age I'd have been slapped senseless by half the adults around.
