Condo living sucks

My upstairs neighbor just called the police because I banged on her door after she was playing music very loudly. Any suggestions? Other than move, I own, she rents.

and she should keep her music down to a tolerable volume .

2. admittedly I was wrong

in banging on her door in the first place (and I did bang loudly), but I have ignored it until now and finally snapped.

5. I'd go over

and apologize for "banging" but that she really does need to lower the volume. She obviously felt threatened by you banging on her door or she wouldn't have called the police..?

3. My suggestion... call the police on her next time she plays it too loud.

Or at least tell her you will, then followup by doing it. It is against the law.

Whe I lived in Manhattan, I had neighbors who played loud music into the early morning. I called the police on them... after the police left, the music came right back on. I finally resorted to going down to the basement where the electrical breakers were and flipped the breaker off for their apartment. I did that a few times, they eventually stopped.

I'm a downstairs condo dweller also. I had a guy upstairs for awhile that I referred to as "Bigfoot." He walked around like Herman Munster, with 40 pound lead shoes. It was awful. And he and his friends tossed cigarette butts - lots of them - over the balcony onto my deck. Once I picked them all up and took them upstairs and handed them to him.

That was actually quite successful in curbing the behavior.

and that's my fault. I'm extremely embarassed by the whole incident, I was definitely rude, but didn't think I was "call the police" rude.

with each other. of course, since she called the police before I did, history will show I'm the "bad" guy in this whole incident. ARGH!

6. I would talk it out

rather than call the police. I think it is important to have good relations with neighbors. Just say that it bothers you and if they wouldn't mind turning it down. Maybe offer them over for a beer.

I was very, um, rude, even irrational. Once I get to the breaking point, I broke. Even though they were playing the music loudly, I could have dealt with it better. ARGH!!!! (doing my best Howard Dean here - he was great on The Daily Show on Thursday, BTW)

Put yourself in her shoes. She may have thought you intended to get violent due to the loud pounding on her door. Who knows what her experiences with abusive men have been in the past? She may have dated a Republican before.

17. As I mentioned before...

I was defintely a bit on the "uncontrolled" side. I never would have done anything to her or her kids, but just got really pissed at the music. My roommate has also complained about her kids playing music all day when he's trying to sleep (he works evenings, and sleeps during the day)

doesn't mean we can NEVER get angry or miffed at little old ladies/puppies/kids/boy scouts helping little old ladies across the street.

Sometimes we just get irrational, or angry and we blow! :nuke:

My life hasn't been a bed of roses but that doesn't give me an excuse to annoy and hassle people who just want some peace and quiet on their weekends. I will sometimes get annoyed with people, we all will. :)

24. You can go to your board and see if they can lean on the owner to

get after his tenant if the problem persists.
Not to discourage you but I had a terrible problem with two different upstairs neighbors (and I use the term loosely)both were horrid people.
Both we tried to "reason" with them but to no avail.

'Had to move both times and swore we would never have upstairs neighbors again. Next problem was with "neighbors" on the side, though!

We finally figured it out that you can't have anyone over you or next to you - no adjoining walls or ceiling at all. Top floor in a 3 flat is best.
