Poll question: Some say the world will end in fire/ some say in ice
Edited on Sun Jun-26-05 04:53 PM by undisclosedlocation
I did this once before; hope it's funnier this time (or uh, more thought-provoking. Yeah! That's the ticket!)
Here's the whole poem, for reference purposes:
Fire and Ice (Robert Frost)

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To know that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

I'm also ripping off TS Eliot, but you'll have to go hunt down Prufrock for yourself.

Edit: Y'all are just going to have to live without Other; apologies to anybody voting Other while I'm making this change. (I had forgotten drought.)

Editedit: I don't know, but it'll be Dubya's fault replaces 'It's a cookbook!'

1. I went for pudding, because that's what shrubby's brains are made of
and that's what's going to take us all down - the pudding in shrubby's brain case.

2. Maybe I should put on "I don't know, but it'll be Dubya's fault"
I'm not sure how many people are going to get the Twilight Zone reference I put on anyway.

3. I missed it - was that the cookbook?
I thought that was a reference to the book _Red Dragon_.

4. Yes. I'm taking it off in favor of the Dubya one, though
so we know what's going to win the poll now.

It was the episode where the kindly space aliens came to teach us how to live in peace and plenty, and left a book behind. The translators were able to figure out that the title was "To Serve Man," but after that they were stumped. One of them was just getting on the ship to visit the aliens' home planet when his assistant, who was a much more dedicated translator, ran up and told him that they had finished the translation. "Don't get on the ship! 'To Serve Man'-- it's a cookbook!"

Forgive spoiler.

but we may very well be in the death throes of it right now, and it's been 5 long long years

"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."
--Abraham Lincoln
"If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy."

14. With a whimper, not a bang.
And the masses will be singing repuker mantras right up to the very end expecting divine salvation.
