Full Metal Alchemist is anime. I just noticed it myself, have seen vols 1 and 2, but I think there were a couple of missing chapters. Netflix has it.

It's about alchemy amongst several other themes. It's pretty intelligent, variety of well defined characters, drama, ideas, violence, short story structure (like Animatrix).
