I just wasted two hours of my life watching the movie "Sideways".

WTF?? Am I missing something here? Can someone tell me how the hell this thing won awards? In my opinion, the acting was mediocre and the storyline weak. Wow, that's quite disappointing, I had hopes for it.

Sandra Oh was charming. And I also think that Paul Giamatti had his moments, especially the speech about Pinot Noir grapes, which was an obvious metaphor for his life. But overall, I have to say it was a stinker.

When the trailers were running for the theatrical release it was billed as a drama. When they were packaging the trailers for DVDand VHS it became a comedy. It was actually neither and that was the problem. Neither the scriptwriter or the director knew what kinda movie they were making.

The characters weren't appealing, so I didn't feel anything for them - so it sucked as a character development.

I loved it. I had the complete opposite reaction from you. The acting was brilliant (except one scene with Thomas Hayden Church), the script was alive and strong. I thought Paul Giamatti deserved an Oscar over Jamie Fox. What can I say?

I can't swear you're missing anything. Not all stories and characters connect with everyone. It connected with me, though.

I think it "caught on" with some people because it was NOT a high concept, violent, mindless film. I'm a big fan of LOTR, but the special effects supported a real story. Too many of today's films just have the effects.

I didn't think it was as fantastic as I'd heard. I really did like the character development though. I have always liked Sandra Oh, and really loved her in this role. The only character I really didn't like was Jack. I didn't feel they did a good job of making him sympathetic in spite of his obvious flaws. I hated him throughout the movie, thought he was a total heel, and his little moment of tears was not enough to redeem him.

I really enjoyed Miles, and the relationship between him and Maya.

I didn't love Adaptation, though. I just thought it was a clever idea. But I like Nicholas Cage, and I probably liked the film mostly because of him. If I didn't like him, I doubt I'd have liked the film. So I can see where you're coming from.

Feel lucky, though. At least you only had to suffer two hours. I lost over ten hours with LOTR! Well, there were some effects worth watching, so maybe I only hated eight hours of it.
