Late-night completely useless trivia thread
Here's a sample of some completely useless trivia from off the top of my head:

The little cylinders on the ends of shoelaces are called "aglets".

Butterflies have tastebuds on their feet.

The character who shot Howard Beale in the movie "Network" was played by a 17-year-old Tim Robbins (uncredited).

Americans eat an average of 60 hot dogs each, per year.

Cenosillicaphobia is fear of an empty glass.

Before he gained fame as the creator of 7-Up, Charles Grigg invented and patented two cold drinks called "Whistle" and "Howdy".

The first time a New Orleans Saint ever touched a football, he (John Gilliam), ran it back for a 94-yard touchdown against the Los Angeles Rams. Saints lost the game, 27-13. Still waitin' on that Superbowl.

Feel free to add your own contributions of useless knowledge :-)

I'd guess myself to be in the 6-12 range per year. And closer to six.

Much rather have a slice of pizza.

on edit...SIX..

8. To balance out folks like us...there must be people that eat them several
...times a week.

Those other end of the curve folks, to reach an average of 60.

10. I guess so
I'm suddenly feeling better about my life's longevity. If there are people out there eating that many hot dogs it must mean that the average life span is scewed downward.

11. Sixty dogs a year is five per month.
I fall far short of that mark, although I enjoy a drunken late-night dog (or three) from the local 24-hour greek diner on occasion.
