they'll always have an asterisk next to them, because it wasn't a "real" season. So, since it wasn't a "real" election, *Bush will always have an asterisk too.

In history books Bush will always have a * by his name as in footnotes in will indicate that he did not legitimately become president but was rather appointed president.
At least that is what I understand.
