Tomorrow my husband goes in for heart surgery
Ever had a day that you wished would hurry up and get here but also didn't want to come? That's how I am.

Paul will be having surgery tomorrow to correct a defective valve on his heart. It's a problem he's had since he was young (his sister died of it).

My problem is that the hospital he's going to has made him fill out a Living Will. I, for some reason, can't seem to get my Intellectual Side and my Emotional Side together to actually look at it. I know it's important but I'm already jelly inside.

So I sit here with a smile on my face to show him that I'm being strong. Then he leaves for work or the store and I have my emotional breakdown. I want the day over with but I don't want it to really come.

5. Good luck Will
We'll be thinking about you....

Since I had my triple bypass in December, I've learned a few things the most important of which is that the surgery is nothing compared to the recovery. Support, care and understanding are going to be needed in big, big doses over the next six months or so.

Good luck to you again.

18. Oh great...
It gets worse? <heh> I'm taking 2 weeks family leave to stay home and drive him to doctors appointments, etc. The surgeon signed my forms for 6 - 8 weeks (which is how long Paul will be off) but he said 2 weeks is a good goal.

7. On the Living Will...
I worked in medical records at a hospital for over a year. It was standard procedure, no matter what the patient was coming in for, that a living will was in place, or a form called "advanced directives" was filled out. That way, there was no confusion.

When I had my hysterectomy a few years ago, the same thing was done.

I hope everything goes well for your husband.

these days they discharge after 48 hours!

Think good happy thoughts and have been there... it's always worse for the spouse.

13. Worrying isn't going to change the outcome one bit.
In fact, in this case worrying is wasting YOUR heartbeats right now. Even if the worst comes to pass, your worrying won't have done anything to change it. Let go of the worry, do what you are called on to do, and be positive for real for your husband and for yourself.

I hope everything goes well - valve surgeries are pretty much a piece of cake these days even though it sounds scary. Chin up.

14. sign the living will and put it away
the last thing you need is to worry about that. been thru a couple of close calls with my heart so i know what he`s going thru and what you are going thru. if i don`t see him later tell from someone who been there, done that-see ya when you get back on the keyboard!

17. My cousin had similar surgery last year
It went beautifully and he is better now than ever.

I know this is a tough time, you feel hopeless and helpless. But you're doing all you can do for him. Being strong and being there for him.

Get all the ducks in a row about the Will. Just so everyone feels better. But he will be fine.

We'll be thinking about you.
